Chapter 12 - Evander

774 Words
Although it had taken sometime to get my wolf under control, we were now in complete agreement. As much as he wanted Josette, he now understood knew the consequences of being with a human, and the Alpha in him wouldn't let anything jeopardize his future position. There might be a few moments of weakness but overall he was mostly under my control. The issue now rested squarely on my shoulders. The time I spent away, trying to distance myself from her, all seemed for nothing, the moment I laid my eyes on her at the bonfire. I'd left to avoid temptation, because I wasn't sure how much longer I could be around her and not claim her. It seemed like the safer option. But then, she followed me and got lost in the woods. I followed her, watching silently as she called out for help and tried to find her way back to the party. Then Johnny showed up, complicating things. I'd scented him in the air long before she saw him. He'd been out for a run and I'd hoped that their paths wouldn't. The second I heard her scream, I knew she'd seen him. I tried to convince her otherwise, but the stubborn girl stood her ground. It was one of the things I liked most about her, her strong will. If she were a wolf, she'd probably be an alpha. But she wasn't. I pushed the thoughts away. She was human and off limits, and there was nothing I could do about that. I'd taken her home and when she asked me to say, I been relieved. The thought of leaving her had hurt, but I knew I had to. The more time we spent together, the more my control slipped. And at this rate, I knew it was only a matter of time before I lost the battle. Yet, I couldn't stay away. I wasn't sure why I went to her room a day after, but I did. I told myself that it to make sure she was alright, But really, I just needed to see her again. And when we kissed, I'd felt a rush of desire that I couldn't control and I snapped. The rational part of me knew I'd regret it, but the irrational part was ready to take all the consequences just to make her mine. But the former won. I'd pulled back and ran. And when she stormed into school the next day, as mad as hell, I had to make it right. But I couldn't tell her the truth. I couldn't tell her that I wasn't like her, that I wasn't human and that it didn't matter how much I wanted her, we couldn't be together. The world didn't work that way. My body seemed to move of its own accord, drawn to her like a magnet as I followed her to the school bathroom. I was powerless to resist, my feet carrying me closer to her even as my mind screamed against it. And when she begged me to make her understand, I almost did. I almost told her everything and the only that held me back was the thought of her hating me for what I truly am. A beast. A werewolf. I almost told her everything and the only that held me back was the thought of her hating me for what I truly am. A beast. A werewolf. I know I don't deserve her, she's too good for me. Every time I touch her, I'm reminded of the blood I've spilled with these very hands, the countless lives I've taken. I couldn't bear to taint her innocence. Her skin is so soft, so smooth and so fragile, and I know I could kill her without even trying. I couldn't live that. It's better for us both if I keep my distance. That was what I told myself as I left the girls' bathroom and went after her. I followed her scent to the cafeteria and even amidst the crowded room, I easily spotted her. Her dark brown hair, pulled up into a messy ponytail, swayed as she walked towards friend's table. As I approached their table, Vanessa, one of her friends, noticed me first. "He's headed here." I heard her whisper to Josette. "Who?" Josette asked, scanning the room, her eyes widening as she realised it was me. I wasn't sure what I was doing but I was certain that I wanted to. I stopped at their table, standing before of her as she eyed me warily. Stretching out my hand for a handshake. I said. "Josette right? I'm Evander."
