Chapter 1 Act Like You Love Me

1914 Words
Karen stretched out her body in the lobby of the big mansion, she was holding a cup of coffee and staring out into the garden. It was a glass mansion and it had never been her dream to be standing in such a space. She had never imagined her life like this two and a half years ago, and getting married to her loving husband, David Anderson, would still forever feel like a dream to her. "Karen," She heard the deep voice behind her and it was followed by a kiss on the nape of her neck as a smile spread along her lips, it was the man of the moment. "Hey." She turned around as she looked up at David, into his clear blue eyes, his well built body made him look just like those models seen in magazines and never in her life did she think she would get married to a man both blessed with wealth and handsomeness. "You are already dressed?" She glanced down at the blue well-tailored suit he is wearing, she quickly placed the glass of coffee in her hand on the table close to where she was standing and adjusted his tie. "It was croaked." She said with a coy smile at the corner of her lips. "You are the best." He told her as he raised his hand to her hair and pulled some strands of her hair away from her face. "I will be meeting with some investors today at work, but will make sure to come home quickly--" "Hey, you shouldn't, all you have to do is focus on work and I will be right here waiting for you to come home." She flashed him a smile, but he shook his head. "I don't like leaving you all alone, I will return quickly since I can't bear being away from you even for a minute." His words melted Karen's heart, this was a part she loved most about David, he loves her so much and she did not feel like she deserved it especially from a man like him. "Me too, but, I will be going to the orphanage home today, so I won't be so bored nor alone." She told him, since the orphanage was more like a family home to her because she has grown up there, "but I will make sure to be home before you get here as always," she added still with that coy smile at the corner of her lips. David looked at her face to be sure there was no sadness in her eyes, he knew she grew up at the orphanage and for that reason he never wanted her to feel alone ever again, he was going to stand by her forever, but Karen is good too at keeping her emotions to herself especially when she don't want him to worry about her. David kissed her lips softly. "Have a pleasant time at the orphanage then, and I will see you once I return." He told her, she nodded in response and walked him to the door. Karen waved him goodbye as he drove out of the mansion after giving her one more glance. A smile spread through Karen's lip, it was really going to be a long day today, still, it was going to end with seeing him when he returned, and that gives her an inner peace. "It's time to get ready Karen," she said out loud and quickly went to the bathroom only to find that the water is not running. How can this be? Karen asked within her knowing that David used the water just this morning. She tried the next room to find still that the water wasn't running, a little frustrated Karen went for her phone back in her room and called the water Agency. Karen put down the phone after making the call, they had told her they will be here soon, but she doesn't know how soon that will be, but she hoped they won't keep her waiting for hours. It wasn't up to fifteen minutes when she heard the doorbell ring and she turned her eyes to the door. Karen blinked, she knew it can't he David, there was no way he will be home soon and also he doesn't ring the doorbell whenever he comes home, she also knew she was not expecting anyone since no one visited her apart from her friend Mica and she will always call before coming. "Have they come already?" She asked within her since it was the water Agency she was expecting, but never thought they would be here so quickly. Karen walked over to the door and glanced at the monitor to see three men standing at her doorstep, she hesitated for a while before pushing the door open. "Yes, how may I help You? Karen asked, peering at the three men standing in front of her when she opened the door. 'She is still dressed in her night robe and yet looking so beautiful, Smith, one of the three men who is standing in front of Karen said within him' He have heard of her, but he has never met her in person, "We are from the water Agency, ma'am, you called us some minutes ago..." Smith was saying when Karen cut in. "Oh, yes," Karen said, looking at them closely, she did not take note of their coveralls when she answered the door. "You guys came so early though, I thought the water Agency is hours away from here," Karen couldn't help but notice given the time that she had called them and the time they arrived. "Oh, yes ma'am, we were around the corner when the call came in, so we went straight here," Smith didn't hesitate to reply to her. 'This Karen lady must be smart to have taken note of the time' Smith thought within him, trying to look calm and not arouse suspicion, he glanced briefly at his friend's to try and calm them down too, they got the hint immediately and tried too to act normal. "Alright, come in," Karen said after a moment of looking from their faces to the name of the water Agency on their coveralls, she ushered them in since the Agency is a well known one to her and they have used their services before as well. "Thanks ma'am," Smith told her, as he and the others walked into the house, they turned to one another briefly, and their eyes widened, filled with astonishment seeing the interior of the house, the outside of the building is magnificent but this, inside the house, this is beyond their imagination, everything in here seemed like it could cost a fortune. 'How can one be so wealthy?' Smith asked within him as his gaze went from one corner of the room to the other, they have struck a gold mine, he added, still looking around the house. Karen did not seem surprised at all by their behaviour, no one comes into this house without being fascinated by it, she did the same too the first day she entered this house, even though David, her husband refurnished it every year. "This way please." Karen said out loud to draw their attention back to her. "Yes, Ma'am." Smith flashed her a smile and gestured to the others, who are still taken by the house in other to get their attention. Karen looked at them, and thought something is off about them because one of the men has been the one talking to her since they arrived here, the other two seemed not to be themselves too, but she decided to let it be, besides, the man talking to her must be their superior. Karen climbed up the stairs, and the three men followed slowly behind her, even though their eyes still wonders around the house. "I do not know what happened to the water supply, it suddenly stopped running when I wanted to take a bath, this is something that has never happened before…" Karen chatted away not knowing whether the men behind her listened or not as she has a carefree personality. "You can check over there, that is the water chamber of the building, that was the place your colleagues who came before checked to rectify an issue," Karen told them pointing at a passage way of the house. Smith gestured to the two men to follow him, as they walked over to the water Chamber where Karen had pointed to them, and after a few inspection, Smith walked over Karen who stood by the water chamber door. "What is the matter?" She asked as Smith walked closer to her. "We could not find any issues there, Ma'am," Smith told her. "What?" Karen asked, a little surprised because if they did not find any issues there, then what could have happened? They always pay their bill so it cannot be a water cut. "Where is your room, Ma'am?" Smith asked, peering at Karen, still trying his best not to sound or look suspicious. He is here to do a job and certainly not to fix anything besides, they already knew what the problem is and the water will begin to run after they are done here, and he thinks it is time to get down to business. "Pardon, me," Karen said, a little surprised as she does not understand why he wanted to know where her room is. "I would like to go check it out in your bathroom, Ma'am," Smith replied, "I am sorry for the inconvenience that might cost, " he added immediately. "Is that so?" Karen asked giving it a brief thought as she stared at the man in front of her, "I do not think the issue is from my room, but if you insist on checking there first, then follow me," Karen added, leading the way to her room, if checking her bathroom will help in resolving the issue immediately then she wouldn't mind. "Here you go," Karen said, turning to the men behind her as she entered her room, "that is the bathroom over there," She pointed to the door at the left corner of the room. "Let's get to work guys," Smith said to his friends, who nodded to him and then closed the door behind them, "this is your bedroom right?" Smith asked Karen just to make sure. "Yes," she replied, "What are you doing? I mean, why are you closing the door?" She asked looking from Smith to the others sensing now that something is not right. "I am sorry ma'am but we need you to do something for us," Smith said, taking Karen's arm. "Excuse me, what are you doing?" Karen asked angrily, pulling her arm forcefully away from Smith, wondering why he would take her arm the way he did. "I said, I want you to do something for me," Smith told her again, peering at her. He is hoping that this woman does not turn out to be stubborn as that is not the information he got about her before coming here. "Who are you people, and what can I possibly do for you?" Karen asked as it slowly began to down on her that they may not be who they said they were. "I want you to make love to me." Smith told her slowly with a smirk on the corner of his lips and Karen's pupils dilated.
