“That’s disgusting!” I said, as Alafaire adjusted the stinking body over her shoulder.
Snorting, she shrugged. “He’s the one who shoved it in my face. What else did he expect me to do, lick it? Besides, I was hungry.” Alafaire grinned at me, her mouth brimming with sharp teeth for half a second. Snapping her jaw shut, her teeth returned to human.
I shuddered, shifting into a female form. “It seems you’ve encountered more than your fair share of unsavory people,” I said. I inspected my handiwork, a branch whittled down to a point. Satisfied, I retracted my claws to reveal a delicate hand.
“Even they were savory in one aspect,” Alafaire said. “Next time I hunt one of those creeps, you’ll have to take a taste. Humans really are delicious. Especially their hearts.”
