She helped all us kids with costumes every year; she could sew, and she didn’t want to spend money on ready-made costumes. So she turned the effort into a fun family project.
The year I was seven for Halloween, which would be on a Sunday, Gram and I worked extra hard on my costume. It was… you guessed it: Spiderman. It was not a simple costume. Gram went to at least three stores to make sketches of Spiderman costumes. My part in the effort was to make the spider web bits that we’d attach with fabric adhesive, and she taught me to crochet a simple chain stitch with black yarn.
