“Hi,” I heard Car say. “How did it go yesterday?”
“I think it was good. I might have slept through part of it.”
“You didn’t.”
“No, I didn’t but I could have.” I sighed. “If I ever do something like this again, you have to let me sleep the night before.”
“I have to let you sleep? Aren’t you in charge of your own life?”
“Am I? I thought we were still on contract. Six months doesn’t end till next week.”
“I tell you what, why don’t you come over tonight. We can discuss the last six months.”
I suddenly had a lump in my throat.
“You want to discuss it? And not let it roll right over?”
“Just come over here.”
“What time?”
“As soon as you can. And plan on staying the night.”
“Okay. I’ll be there as soon as I shower.”
