War horns blared across the borders as the largest rogue attack yet crashed down on Silverfang like a storm no one saw coming in full force.
Astrid raced through the chaos, shouting warnings at the top of her lungs. "Ambush from the north ridge. They are circling behind us. Fall back to the trees now or they will cut us off completely."
Her words saved dozens. Warriors shifted positions just in time. The battle turned fierce but the pack held thanks to her scouting. Swords clashed and wolves growled as the fighting raged across the muddy ground. When the last rogue fled into the woods, tired cheers rose from the fighters who survived.
Back at the main grounds the pack held a quick celebration in the great hall. Torches burned bright. Tables held what food they could gather fast after the fight. Viktor raised his cup high. "We stood strong today. Raise a glass to victory and the wolves who fought hard for all of us."
Astrid stepped into the center of the hall, voice ringing clear over the noise. "Before we celebrate, hear me. I have proof of betrayal inside our own pack. Real proof this time that cannot be ignored."
She held up the messages high for everyone to see. "Liora has been working with the rogues to weaken us. These notes show her plans in her own hand. And Draven helped her. He wanted power so badly he sold us out to our enemies."
The hall exploded into chaos. Warriors shouted. Cups slammed down on tables. "Treason," someone yelled loud. "Show the proof," another demanded. "This cannot be true. Read them out."
Liora jumped forward fast. "This is ridiculous. Those messages are fake. Astrid made them to destroy me because she is jealous of my place here. I came here to help this pack, not hurt it. She is lying to everyone."
Draven stood beside her, face pale but voice angry. "She lies. Father, you cannot believe her over your own son. This is her last desperate move to get back at us for rejecting her."
Viktor stepped between them. "Enough. Let me see those papers, Astrid. Everyone quiet while I read them carefully."
Astrid handed them over. "Read them yourself. Liora promised Draven your seat if he helped her. Draven fed patrol routes to the rogues. My warnings today stopped their full ambush. Many would be dead without what I found."
Kieran stared at the messages, color draining from his face. "Draven, tell me this is not true. You worked with her against us? Against Father and the whole pack?"
Draven snarled. "You were always the favorite. Weak and blind. I did what I had to do. Liora offered real power instead of playing second to you forever."
Liora tried to twist the story again. "They forced me into this. I only played along to protect my own pack from the rogues. Astrid is the real danger here. She wants to tear this family apart for her own gain and revenge."
"Stop lying," Astrid shot back. "The dates match the attacks exactly. The handwriting matches yours. You both planned the strikes that killed good wolves today. Own it in front of everyone."
Viktor read the papers slowly, his shoulders sinking lower with every line. "I failed you all. My favoritism blinded me. I pushed too hard and let this poison grow right under my nose. Draven, my own son, a traitor. How did I miss the signs for so long? I am sorry to the pack."
Kieran turned to Astrid, voice breaking. "I was wrong. So wrong about everything. I pushed you away. I chose her over you. I see it now but it is too late to fix what I broke between us."
"It is too late for sorry," Astrid said. "You stood by while they called me stray. While they plotted against your own blood. Your words mean nothing now after all the pain."
Draven laughed bitterly. "The pack needs strong leadership. Not a weak Alpha and his pet project who never belonged here in the first place."
"Guards," Viktor called out, voice heavy with regret. "Take Draven into holding. Hold Liora too. We will sort truth from lies but the evidence is clear in these papers for all to see."
Liora backed away. "You cannot do this to me. My pack will hear of this insult. This is all Astrid's doing. She is obsessed with revenge and power. Do not listen to her."
"Enough," Viktor said firmly. "The proof is in my hands. Your words mean nothing now. Sit down and stay quiet until we decide your fate."
The hall doors burst open suddenly. A group of tall, armored warriors marched in with heavy steps. Their leader, a scarred man with cold eyes, spoke loud enough to cut through the noise. "We are the delegation from the Lycan King. He received your message about the marriage alliance. We have come to discuss terms and collect his bride if she is willing and the conditions are met."
The entire hall went silent for one long moment then erupted again. Kieran looked stunned. "Now? They arrive right now in the middle of this mess?"
Viktor stepped forward to greet them. "Welcome. Your timing is... unexpected but we will speak. Astrid, this is your doing. The message has brought them here at the worst possible moment."
Astrid felt her heart race. The Lycan King's men stood proud and dangerous. Their presence filled the room with new tension and power that no one could ignore.
The lead delegate nodded at her. "The King has interest. He sends word that strength calls to strength. We will talk after you settle your house matters here. Our lord does not like loose ends or weak packs."
Kieran moved closer to Astrid, eyes desperate. "Do not do this. I was a fool. Give me another chance to make it right. We can fix this together if you give me time."
"You had your chance," she replied. "Now the Lycan King answers. The rest is done between us. Accept it."
Chaos still swirled around them. Viktor looked older than ever as he faced his failures in public. Draven glared from the guards' hold, shouting protests that fell on deaf ears. Liora kept trying to speak and twist more stories but no one listened anymore.
The delegation waited calmly, watching everything with sharp eyes. Astrid stood tall in the middle of the storm she had started. The fracture was complete. And the new path waited just outside the doors with the arrival of the Lycan King's men.
