Two months later, well after Monty’s release from the hospital, Ashley felt ready to stop therapy, but she wanted to leave the door open.
“There’s a couple of problems left to tackle, but I think I can handle it on my own. I love sharing my life with Monty, but he’s not completely comfortable with my taking care of him. I told him it makes me feel good to do things for him and I’m thankful that I can provide enough for us to thrive. But we argue about how much money he costs me, even though I tell him repeatedly that I can afford it and a good chunk was paid by the accident insurance. He also knows I value his companionship. He learns quickly and has become quite the intellectual. We read a lot and discuss books and art. He’s my dearest friend.”
