Betty usually responded to phone calls within the day received or the following day. Having made numerous unsuccessful calls to Betty’s cell and home phones over the course of two days, Cory became worried and planned to notify the San Diego Police Department to investigate her best friend’s disappearance.
Before going that route, she would give it one more try. She punched in Betty’s home number and started to leave a message, “Betty, I’m worried about you and I’m coming over with the police…” A weak voice answered. Cory recognized it as coming from Betty’s, hoarse throat. “Are you sick?” she asked.
“Yep.”
“Can I help you?” Cory asked.
“Doc was here. Called in meds. Better tomorrow.”
