– 15 – After returning home, Cory brewed chamomile tea and carried the cup into the cubicle she dubbed, “The Office.” She switched on the computer to read her email. The newest mail was from Ben. Her heart raced as she retrieved it and read: Cory, my love I know I’ve been remiss in not contacting you more often and being brief when I do. If it felt like a brush-off, I’m sorry. The critical matter, over which I have no control, continues. I don’t know how long it will take to resolve—a few weeks, or perhaps even months. When it is over, I promise to make up for my absence.
