She searched the clubhouse herself and by now she was crying. The kind she couldn't control. Then she heard it. A faint meow. Coming from one of the old storage rooms behind the clubhouse. Sage ran but the door was locked and Her heart stopped. "No." Another weak meow sounded from inside. Then another. She found a spare key hanging nearby and nearly broke it trying to unlock the door. The second the door opened, three terrified cats rushed toward her. Hungry and Scared, covered in dirt. Sage dropped to her knees and a sob escaped her throat. She immediately gathered them against her chest. "It's okay." Her voice shook violently. "It's okay, babies." The cats rubbed themselves against her desperately, seeking comfort.
