The bar is too loud and too crowded.
Usually, this is my kind of scene after winning a game. But tonight, I'm not feeling it.
Mason's sister's words keep staying with me.
Damn! I didn't even get her name.
It might have been the first time I've been rejected by a girl, but my ego is not so fragile that I can't take it. However, her words about me luring innocent girls to drink and having my way with them….now, that's concerning.
I've never thought my intentions could be misread that way.
A weight drops on the seat beside me and I turn to see Josh, my best friend, frowning as he looks at me over.
“What's going on?”
I tilt my head “Do you think I give off the vibe of someone who takes advantage of women?”
He brows furrows as he regards me in confusion “What do you mean by that? Did someone accuse you of taking advantage of women?”
“Something like that.”
His blue eyes go to the crowd then back to me. “Which of them did it?”
“None, it's just something someone else said.” I reply to him before he goes to question everyone in the bar.
Josh can be dramatic like that. More than my best friend, he's my brother in every way that counts.
He has assholes for parents and ran away from home at sixteen. Since then, my Mother raised him like hers, even though she had only lost her husband a few weeks prior. And that's how we became brothers. He'll always claim it is his duty to protect me.
Spoiler alert….it isn't.
Deciding to change the topic, I ask the burning question “Did you know that Mason has a younger sister?”
He seems surprised. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one who didn't know.
“He does?”
I nod “Yeah, that was her in the locker room. She got lost and wandered into ours instead.”
Josh leans back and drops his legs on the table our drinks are on. I ordered a coke because as the Captain, I have to be the responsible one and drive everyone back to our campus. And besides, someone has to be sober in case anything happens. A fight for instance, which happens more often than not. Josh is also not drinking but his reason is different from mine.
“How did we never know? I mean, we went to his house quite a few times, didn't we?”
Isn't that the million dollar question.
“And I'm guessing, she's the one who accused you of taking advantage of girls?” He asks.
“I wanted her to come celebrate with us and she rejected me.”
Josh bursts into laughter “No wonder.” When I glare at him, he bites his lips to hide his laugh.
“I mean, you are basically her brother's enemy, what were you expecting?”
I got to admit, I wasn't thinking before. I was just too into knowing Mason has a sister that I have forgotten my current relationship with her brother.
Rivals.
No wonder she was wary.
I take a sip of my coke that has now gotten warm as I watch my teammates, noticing the ones that are no longer in the bar.
Goddamit! Coach will have my ass if any of them does anything that can implicate us.
I stop one of my teammates, William, also known as d**k or Wil, depending on our mood. He's a hell of a defenseman, his build alone makes our rivals think twice before approaching him. But deep down, he's just a teddy bear.
“Adam and Sullivan are no longer here, go check where they went. I don't want them causing trouble this early into the semester.”
He looks towards the back exit which I'm also sure is where they are.
“I just hope they aren't doing drugs or something s**t, they’ve been behaving suspiciously for a while. They are definitely up to something.” Then he leaves to go look for them.
I hope not too because we don't need media drama this year. It's our final year and I'll be damned if someone gets us into trouble.
“Those two have been joined at the hips since last semester, I wonder what is going on with them.” Josh says from beside me.
“Whatever it is, as long as it's not illegal.”
My coke has gotten warm so I head to the bar to get a new one.
A girl I vaguely remember approaches but I shake my head before she can even get closer. How she was allowed in is beyond me. I specifically told the bar owner that we were renting it out tonight and only our teammates are allowed in.
A woman being around is a recipe for disaster, last semester proved that.
She frowns at my rejection “You won't even let me sit with you?” She pouts in a way that almost makes me roll my eyes.
“How did you get in?” I ask with a frown.
“Through the door?”
Now I actually roll my eyes and head back to my seat, ignoring her.
The moment I take a seat, I take out my phone and place a call to the owner. He said he instructed everything to go as I wished. Then the problem must be the bouncers. I'll have a nice and long talk with them later.
Miss Unknown disappears from view and I hope to God, no one is stupid enough to let her approach them. She has trouble written all over her. And I'm sure she's not here alone. Girls like that always have a group of friends with them everywhere they go.
“We should see her out immediately, I'll have someone do it.” Josh fumes as he places a call across to God knows whom. But at least, the girls will be removed.
Will returns with a frown etched on his face. I drop my glass on the table and Josh also mirrors my movement.
“What are they doing?”
Will moves my glass then sits there, then he looks from me to Josh.
“You wouldn't believe what I just discovered.” I'm already almost out of my chair with impatience.
“What are they doing?” Josh takes the question out of my mouth.
“Making out.”
He drops the bomb and there is silence for the next minute.
I blink rapidly because that may help with understanding what he just said.
“Making….”
“Out.” He completes it, also looking befuddled by the secret he discovered.
“So you are telling me they were gay all along and had been keeping it from us?” Josh sounds awestruck.
Same bro, same.
“Did they see you?” I ask Will and he is already shaking his head.
“I was only going to peek to see if they were actually doing drugs but who knew I would discover such epic news.”
“I wonder why they think they had to hide it from us. Not like any of us would care which way they swing.” Josh comments.
“They are probably avoiding the media, more reasons no stranger should be in here.”
Josh pats my shoulder “Don't worry, they are being removed as we speak.”
Just then I hear loud noises which obviously belong to females at the entrance as they question why they are being sent out.
Good riddance.
