Chapter 2

1332 Words
I run breathing heavily as I enter the gate. "Mom, what's going on ?"I manage to ask between drawing in greedy breaths of air bending from my waist hands on my knees Maybe I Shouldn't have been so lazy in the gym class. Mom doesn't answer neither does she stop as she steadily keeps moving more and more deeper into this old , abandoned place covered with wild plants. I have no idea what is going on with her. I'm all for exploring new places and stuff but it somehow doesn't feel safe to be here, I'll be more than happy to pass up on the chance of exploring this place. But mom seems to be too eager because she doesn't stop despite me calling her out repeatedly to do so. Sighing I straighten up ready to go and get her when I hear a giggle from behind me. Startled I whirl around to see two little children near the gate laughing. Where did they come from? I did not see them when I came inside. Their laughter stops almost abruptly as they both c**k their heads to a side and look at me with big curious eyes. One of the Kid's eyes drops to my wristwatch which shines under the glare of the sun. The kids are utterly still as they look at me, not even blinking. It seems unnatural, They seem unnatural. The hair at the back of my neck stand and I have a totally new level of desperation to get my mother out of this place. Silently , I turn away from those creepy kids feeling unease creep up my body to know that I have my back to them now .Never In my life before had I wanted to have a third eye at the back of my head as much as I want at this moment. 'You are being paranoid, those are just kids ' I scold myself. With my gut screaming at me to get out of this place I do the complete opposite because my mom is no where in sight and I'm sure she had gone further inside this damned building. I don't run though I want to instead, I walk, neither too fast nor too slow, Ok , A little more on the faster side may be . But I don't run least those creepy kids decide to follow me. The place inside is so dark I can barely see anything though I hear the crumbling and squashing of leaves under my feet as I walk. Thin rays of sunlight which have sneaked in from cracks on the top make few things dimly visible to my eyes and none of them are pleasant. I see thick dust, huge cobwebs filled with dead bodies of insects dangling from them and lizards lazily crawling on the walls . This place is giving me a major case of creeps. Abruptly the darkness ends giving way to a wide, unobstructed opening. The sun shines bright on the mud-covered dirty ground and plants. Creepers grow over the broken grey pillars. Despite the sun too many shadows still linger near the edges of the opening and cover numerous pillars with their darkness I suppress a shudder , something here just doesn't feel right . The feeling of forebode that I started feeling right from the moment I took a step inside these gates intensifies. Even The air here seems too thick and still , as if waiting for something to happen and shatter the silence . A flicker of relief fills me when I see mom standing in the middle of the clearing, her back to me. "Mom " I call her in a low voice amidst the eerie silence that fills this place "Lets get out her here " Despite my low voice I'm sure mom had heard me, I keep my eyes on her back waiting for her to respond. "Why ? " Asks a voice from somewhere in the shadows scaring my heart right out of my chest, an instant later a boy emerges from the dark shadows in the corner. "Who-who are you ?" I ask wanting to sound braver than I'm currently feeling. The boy's lips twitch into a smile "Forgive me , I didn't mean to scare you " " Who said you scared me ? " I say defensively, hating that he had figured it out when I hadn't intended to let this person know that. "You just startled me, " I say putting as much as confidence as I can muster in the given set of circumstances in my voice. The boy's smile doesn't falter as he steps further out of the shadows and into the sun. I can see him much clearly now, he isn't one of those little boys I saw near the gate . He seems older, around my age. Tall , lean yet muscular . He has brown chocolate colored warm eyes , slightly wavy brown hair and his smile look pleasant enough. Under the sun he looks harmless and friendly. But something inside me is this on high alert and refuses to let my guard down in front of this guy. "Then I guess I have to apologize either way for startling you " He says casually scratching his head " I will have to do something to make it up to you" "Umm....It's no big deal" I say quickly "It's alright , Don't bother , Me and and my mom will be out of here in a minute anyways" Suddenly his head snaps up his eyes widen and the friendly look had gone " Get her out of here!" he screams. "Get her out of here before he comes " He yells frantically his eyes turning darker. "Who -who is coming for her ?" I ask my heart pounding in my chest with terror "He " The boy screeches " The Lord of shadows and death " I feel my heart stop beating as all blood drains to my toes , I fix my horrified eyes on my mother's still back. "Mom get out of here !" I scream running towards her but somehow with each step I take the distance between us seems to grow more and more. Behind me, I hear a sharp guttural cry and for the briefest second I look over my shoulder and the sight is terrifying enough to make my scream freeze in my throat. Great tremors shake the boy's frame and something seems to be coming out from inside his body tearing its way through the skin and muscles. Sharp ,Bony claws emerge from where his fingers had been and his face peels off giving way to something monstrous. Long bone- white snout like structure with a black stripe running from its center to the hairless skull, huge horizontal shaped black pupil less slit for eyes and when it cries out again its jaws shows rows of sharp long hooked teeth. It leaps. The terror is enough to unfreeze my throat and let out a blood-curdling scream. Suddenly, The ground beneath me rumbles the sky shivers as loud thunders pierce it. Though the blinding light of numerous ear-deafening thunders I see the silhouette of a man. Tall and Broad shouldered. I turn my eyes towards mom, dark spots dancing in and out of my vision " Get out of here Mom before he gets you !" I want to cry out to her desperately against the howling wind, to scream at her to run away but I can't . The air seems to have vanished from my lungs . I see everything around me spinning, grim colors blurring into one another. I feel my legs give out from under me as I collapse to the ground. Before my eyes get covered by the rushing darkness I catch the briefest glimpse of the man's face. As Cold as he is handsome. The darkest eyes I have ever seen.........
