Ivy's POV
The moment I heard that, my heart went out to Alex. I had resented him everyday since the day I thought he dumped me. I was only realizing that he truly loved him to the extent where he told his mum about me. I felt like running to find Alex and giving him a hug but I could not. Even though the previous circumstances had been resolved, our present couldn’t be resolved. We couldn’t stop our parents from being happy.
However, I softened up a bit towards Alex.
He wasn’t present at dinner due to a project he wanted to complete. I took dinner to his room upstairs and I could see the shock on his face when he saw me.
“You brought dinner…” he muttered.
“I did,” I replied coolly.
“That’s shocking!” he replied honestly. “I hope you added no substance to this? I don’t want to end up having a stomachache.”
“Then I will take it back,” I replied hurriedly.
“Oh no!” he held me. He was right on his chair before but he managed to stop me before I got to the door. His right hand was holding my left hand now. His bulky frame made me remember our past again. I felt his breath on my neck and that sent goosebumps down my skin.
Turn back and kiss him. Tell him you are the same Ivy he always knew.
But I could never gather the courage. Instead I turned back and gave him the tray.
“Here you go,” I said nervously. Alex didn’t take his eyes off me and I wondered if something was glued to my face. I was more nervous as he took the tray from me and smiled. I wondered what he was thinking.
“Thank you,” he eventually told me. I nodded and hurried outside his room. Getting out, I found out that I had held my breath all along. My armpits were damp with sweat and my legs were jittery. I had escaped but it was a close call.
I knew I had to hold myself. I mustn’t fall in love with him again.
Going to business school the next day was easier. I took the front seat like Alex wanted yesterday and he was surprised to find me there. He drove to school as usual and unlike yesterday, we walked to the lecture hall together. A professor wanted to see him so we were unable to sit together. It was a four hour class with twenty minutes break only and I felt so uncomfortable. I took notes though unlike yesterday.
The moment we finished, I stood up to stretch. I got my bag and went outside the lecture hall. I was surprised to find a group of guys waiting for me. They were four in number and their leader surely looked cocky.
“What does your father do?” their leader asked me.
“That is not your business,” I replied. I was going to walk away when he held my hand and drew me back. At this point, I was getting irritated.
“My name is Spenser,” he told me coolly. “My father is the CEO of Avon Law firm. You should be familiar with that name if you’re an elite.”
“She looks like a scholarship student!” one of the other guys said. They all began to laugh now. I kept on looking at Spenser in his tall, ugly frame.
I knew the Avon law firm very well. The CEO was actually my dad’s lawyer. It was indeed a big law firm but its CEO would bow for my dad anywhere. I knew Spenser’s dad as well.
“Get out of my way!” I told him firmly.
“That sounds scary,” Spenser laughed. “Look here. I am a very cool guy, you know. We should go out sometime together. You look cute like a teddy bear. I love girls like that.”
“Innocent looking, badass on the bed…” one of his guys added and they all laughed again.
At this point, I couldn’t take it any longer. I decided to take a detour to avoid them but Spenser grabbed my hand. I tried making him let go but he pushed me down angrily.
“Ah!” I grunted.
“You must be crazy!” he shouted at me. Spenser grabbed my hair and pulled me up. I was hurt but I couldn’t defend myself.
In a twinkle in an eye, Alex arrived. He punched Spenser and the latter eventually left my hair.
“How dare you lay your hands on her, you jerk!” Alex shouted at me.
“Get that scum!” Spenser shouted at his guys. His three henchmen rushed towards Alex but the latter seemed skilled in martial arts. He evaded their punches and beat them arms down. Spenser threw a bag at Alex which eventually hit him. Afterwards, Spenser bit Alex’s hand and got him down. He started to punch Alex now which made the latter vulnerable.
I rushed to stop him but Spenser pushed me yet again.
In a matter of seconds, the security team arrived and grabbed Spenser who was breathing like a mad dog. Our identification numbers were asked for and the moment my identity was found out, they reached out to the school’s Dean immediately. When Spenser heard that my father was the school’s sponsor, I could see the shock on his face.
The Dean made Spenser apologize reluctantly.
In the car, I treated Alex’s wound. It looked quite minor but it still remained a cut on his lip.
“Why did you fight them?” I asked but Alex didn’t reply. He kept on looking at me. Eventually, he touched my cheek, making me nervous once again.
“Tell me the truth…” he looked into my eyes. “You are Ivy, the girl from Spain, right?”
