CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR Roubar felt dreadful. He was only just managing to stay upright as he shuffled along in the line. The person immediately in front of him had just fallen and couldn’t get up. The slave drivers just unchained him, decapitated him and threw him to the side. Roubar felt bad for appreciating the delay. He hadn’t known the man in front of him, who was a minor Asperian noble. All the people in the line were men. He worried about what had happened to the women, but really didn’t want to think about it. He looked hopefully at where the sun was, knowing that once it set, they were likely to stop for a while. They had done so the night before, when Roubar had slept almost all the four hours they were still. As the sun neared the horizon, the line stopped. Again Roubar
