The letter

Amelia’s POV

“Open the letter”

Elena said as she rubbed my back, telling me to calm down

I looked over at maya and she nodded her head

Slowly I opened the letter, it was a paper folded into two.

The handwriting,

This was my mother’s handwriting, it was neat and somehow looked familiar

I stared at the page with unbelief

“My mother….” I whispered

“What ?”

Elena asked

I looked at her and then looked back at the paper before I started reading

My mother told me that there were things that were better left unknown and all what she was doing was to keep me safe

Every word of the letter felt heavy and water rolled down my eyes as I read every line

I had footed to the end of the letter and she left a warning for me, my face became serious as I looked at those words

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT LET THE BLACKWOODS FIND YOU

the name immediately brought back the memory of the strange picture I had found the other night of my mother

Aunt Victoria’s reaction

My mother had history with the Blackwoods and there was no doubt

Why would my mother tell me to stay away from the Blackwoods

but there was something at the back I hadn’t read it said

“If you’re reading this Amelia it means that I have failed to protect you myself”

I was scared and short of words

I looked at maya and Elena and they looked back at me tell me it is going to be fine

That night felt like the beginning of something I sure knew I wasn’t ready for

Or maybe I was in danger and I didn’t know about it

I barely slept that night

I heard noises from the window and I saw a silhouette of someone I quickly rushed to go see who it was but the person left before I got there

The person looked a bit familiar like Damien at least that’s what i thought

I woke up the next morning still thinking about my mother’s letter, I read it so many times that the words kept on ringing in my head

But there was a problem,

I already knew one of the Blackwoods

Damien Blackwood

I walked into school with Elena and we went straight to the class

I kept on remembering the letter

“Are you okay”

Elena asks me

“ Im okay”

I replied quickly

She looked and me and sighed

Before I could say anything else I heard a voice from the back call me name

“Amelia”

I turned around slowly and saw that it was Damien

He was across the hallway and he looked very expressionless like the typical Damien

He walked towards me and Elena

“ are you okay”

He asked

I said yes and was confused as to why he cared

“Happy birthday by the way, I missed your birthday yesterday”

“Thanks”

I said as he walked away with a look on his face as if he still had questions to ask me

Before I could say anything the bell rang and it was time for our first class maya dragged me and said

“Let’s go we’re going to be late for the class”

I turned and we left the hallway to our class

We sat down ready to learn and we opened our books to read

“Amelia”

Elena whispered

“Yes”

“ you’ve been starting at that page since the beginning of class, are you okay”

I looked at Elena and told her I was fine

But she was right I was thinking about the letter

Elena turned to me again and asked

“ do you think Damien knows something”

I looked at Damien across the room and he was doing his work

“I don’t know”

He looked up suddenly and our eyes met , i looked away hurriedly and he continued his work

Few minutes after break that day I found a letter under my desk that said

“ we need to talk”

It was an anonymous letter and I was confused

After school I went for the library to get some books I needed for my work and I saw Damien there and also I was holding the paper that the anonymous person had sent

Damien saw the letter in my hand and froze he looked anxious for the first time, I noticed and asked

“Did you write this”

And he looks at me and said

“Yea I did “

I already suspected he was the one from the beginning because of his body language

“Okay so why did we need to talk”

I asked hurriedly

“Because there’s something you need to know”

Immediately, I knew it was about my mother and I knew I wouldn’t like what he was going to say

“So what is it”

He looked at me and said

“Did your mother leave you anything?”

I said yes while lol at him suspiciously

“What did she leave?”

“Why are you asking?”

“Just answer me”

“A letter.”

He looked away quick and then looked back

“ what did the letter say”

I hesitated and said

“She said I should stay away from your family, the Blackwoods”

I could see the shock in Damien’s face

“She did”

“Yes”

I brought out the letter from my bag to show him but he didn’t collect it so I kept it back in my bag

“So why did you bring me here?”

I asked him because I was rushing somewhere

“Because you’re not meant to stay away from all the Blackwoods, not all of them are harmful

“ then who can I trust”

Before he could answer him he heard his name from Outside and left hurriedly

I was shocked and scared

I also heard my name from the hallway then I realized was elena looking for me so we could go home

I picked the books i needed and left the library

We left school and I was still thinking about why Damien thinks I shouldn’t stay away from all the Blackwoods
