Pain

Victor: My name is Victor Alonzo Black. I am the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, The largest pack in Louisiana. I became the Alpha 25 years ago, but I have been leading the pack alone for the last 20 years. I was currently sitting at my desk, going over some paperwork, when I heard a short knock sound from my door. “Come in.” I shouted. The door opened just a c***k and Alexander, my Beta, poked his head through. “Alpha?” I waved him in. He opened the door the rest of the way and entered my office. He quietly shut the door behind him and sat in the chair across from me. He had that look in his eye. The look that something was wrong. “What is it Alexander?” “She was spotted. Just a few miles outside the Lafayette border.” I snapped my head up when he said that. Worry and fear immediately filling me. She’s getting closer. I dropped the papers that were in my hands and balled my fists up. “Where is she now?” I asked, relaxing my hands and looking up at Alexander. He leaned forward in his chair, furrowing his brow and pressing his lips into a thin line. He let out a heavy sigh before looking back up at me. “We don’t know. We do know that she had others with her. At least 3.” After he finished his sentence, all I could do was stare at him. Different emotions coursing through me. But the one that stood out the most, the one that was the most dominant was fear. What if they find her? They’ll kill her. I blinked and shook my head, trying to clear my head. “We need to go. It’s time.” I told him. He gave me a short nod, letting me know he understood. We both stood from our chairs and started walking to the door. “Mind-link the rest of the pack and let them know.” I looked out of my office window. “It’s getting late, but if we leave now, we should be able to make it by- “That’s when I felt it. My sentence was cut short by the most overwhelming, excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my life. It’s the Mate bond. I let out a scream and felt to the ground in pain. Alexander was immediately at my side, worried etched in his face. “Victor what is it?” He asked with anxiety coursing through his voice. “It’s Sophia. Something’s wrong with Sophia. I can feel the bond breaking.” I managed to tell him through my strained voice. “Call Calliope.” He pulled his phone out and dialed her number. He held the phone to his ear, and it was only a second before Calliope picked on the first ring. “It’s Alexander, something’s wrong with Sophia.” He said. He was quiet as he listened to her reply. “Ok.” He said before hanging up. “She said she’s going to make some calls and have someone check on her.” I nodded before passing out from the pain. I could hear whispering when I finally woke up. I still felt the pain from earlier, except now it was just a dull ache that resided in my chest. I struggled to open my eyes, but when I was finally able to open them, I was blinded by a light directly next to me. I let a groan as I tried to shield the light from my eyes with my hand. I heard a short gasp and the sound of rushing footsteps before I felt someone kneel at my side. “Alpha?” I recognized the voice as Alexanders. I looked over at him and noticed the worry etched into his face. There were bags under his eyes like he hadn’t slept in days and it looked like he had aged 10 years. “I’m fine.” I said in a gruff voice. I tried slowly to sit up. Alex immediately rushed to help me, but I waved him away. I finally sat ball the up and surveyed my surroundings. I was in my bedroom. The other person in the room, that Alexander had been speaking to, was another pack member I hadn’t seen in years. Carl Browning. It had been 20 years since I had last seen him. He was a tall man with milk chocolate skin, hazel eyes, and short, black hair. I was shocked to see him, especially since he was supposed to be in Lafayette. “Don’t worry, Victor. Calliope is with her.” He said with a smile. I could see the wrinkle lines in his forehead from stress, and when I looked in his eyes, I could see he was trying to hide something from me. I may have not seen him in years, But I still knew him better than anyone. He was my best friend. “What happened? Did Calliope check on Sophia?” I asked. I felt sense of dread filling the air after I asked my question. Neither Carl nor Alexander could look at me. “What? What is it?” Carl finally stepped forward. He slowly approached me. “I’m so sorry, old friend.” He said with a sad tone. “Sophia was found last night. When you felt that pain, she was murdered.” Alex said from beside me. I looked between the both of them. Waiting for them to tell me it was lie. That it was some kind of horrible joke. But when neither of them anything after what felt like an eternity, I realized that it wasn’t a joke or a lie. Sophia’s dead. I leaped out of the bed and barreled my way out of the door and down the stairs. As soon as I was out of the pack house, I immediately shifted and let out a howl. Not just a normal one, but one that was filled with pain and grief. I ran into the woods and kept going. I needed to find her; she was all I had left. I needed to find Victoria. It only took me a few hours to get to Lafayette. I had been hiding behind a tree that was across the street from her house. I watched as a strange car entered her driveway. I was getting to dart across the street to whoever was exiting the car, when I recognized the person as Calliope. I hadn’t seen her since I sent her to watch Victoria. She stepped out of the car and retrieved the grocery bags from the backseat. After she shut the car door, she stopped and lifted her head, sniffing the air around her. Her eyes darted to where I was, and she looked around in my direction, before her eyes finally settled on me. She slightly bowed her head, before straightening her posture and checking the area for anyone else. She turned and made her way back to the house. Before she made her way up the stairs to the front door, she took what looked like clothes, out of one of the grocery bags she was carrying and hid them in a bush. She glanced back at me, pointed to the bush and then turned and went inside the house. I poked my head from around the tree and checked to make sure there was no one outside before darting across street and to the bush Calliope had thrown the clothes into. I shifted back into my human and quickly grabbed the clothes from the bush. I yanked the jeans on, and then the socks and tennis shoes, before throwing the T-shirt on and walking inside. When I entered the house, I followed Calliope’s scent to the kitchen, where I found her leaning against the counter, waiting for me. “Calliope.” I said. She looked me and smiled. “How are you- “She shushed me as she walked across the kitchen to me and wrapped me in a hug. “I’m so sorry Victor.” She whispered quietly as I wrapped my arms around her, returning her hug. “Me too.” I said as a few tears slipped down my cheeks. She stepped back and used one of her thumbs to wipe my tears away. Calliope, even though she was only 21, was one of my toughest fighters, yet so caring about her pack. “The police came by earlier to tell Victoria. Poor girl was a mess. They took her to go see Sophia’s body. She’ll be back soon.” She said, whispering the last part. “Ok, I won’t stay long. But after everything is over, we need to tell Victoria the truth, and we need to bring her back home.” She nodded and gave me one more hug before I headed to the back of the house and out the back door. I waited till I was at the tree line before I took my clothes of and shifted. I ran off into the woods and try to formulate a plan as to how I was going to tell Victoria everything. More importantly, I was going to get her home. A few days had passed since I first arrived at Lafayette. They held Sophia’s funeral today. I attended, but I kept my distance and stayed in wolf form in the woods. After the service was over, I ran back in wolf form to the hotel I was staying at and went to my room and changed. After I left the hotel, I drove to Victoria and Calliope’s house in my car rental. When I arrived, I parked my car across the street and waited. The service had ended almost an hour ago, so she would be here soon. Soon, I would have too look Victoria in the eye and tell her the biggest secret of her life. I was mid thought, when I caught a scent coming from the air blowing into my window. I looked out the window and saw a man standing in her Victoria’s front, studying the front of the house, before he stalked around to the back of the house. The man was tall, with blond hair that reached his shoulders, a black shirt, jeans, and black and green camo boots. I could tell something wasn’t right, and I was about to get out of my car to follow the man when a car pulled up into the driveway. A woman with a black hair pulled up into a ponytail and wearing a black dress with long sleeves exited the car. I immediately recognized the woman as Victoria. She was sniffling and wiping tears from her eyes as she got out the car and made her way to the house. I watched, mesmerized by her, as she went inside the house. It wasn’t until after she shut the door that I remembered the man I had seen moments ago. I quickly got out the car and started to walk across the street. I was halfway across when I heard a scream coming from the house. I quickly sped the rest of the way across the street and into the house. I came crashing through the door in time to see the man bearing down menacingly at Victoria. She looked so scared as she tried backing away from the man, pointing a knife in his direction. Without even thinking, I walked up to the man, and snapped his neck. I watched as his body fell to the ground. Victoria let out another scream, now pointing the knife in my direction. “Who are you?” She screamed. I held my hands in the air and stepped over the man’s body, slowing walking towards her. “It’s ok Victoria, I’m not going to hurt you. I would never hurt you.” She shook her head as more tears streamed down her face. “I don’t believe you. You just killed that man. Who are you?” She asked again, this time without screaming. I stopped a few feet in front of her and put my hands down. “It’s ok, you can trust me. Just put the knife down.” I said cautiously. She shook her head again. “Why should I trust you?” She asked, still pointing the knife at me. “Because, Victoria.” I took a deep breath as I said this. “I’m your father.”
