Chapter 3

I was so pissed at myself. I kept questioning what I had just said to Nathan. What kind of normal thinking person would say ‘yes’ to someone she barely knew? What on earth was I thinking when I accepted his request to let him stay here until he figured everything out? “So f*****g stupid,” I continued to utter towards myself. I was now in my room, contemplating whether to take back whatever I said a while ago to Nathan. “God, so f*****g stupid,” I uttered one more time before deciding to just take a nap rather than to blame myself more for being so f*****g stupid. When I woke up, it was already around 8 in the evening when I decided to go downstairs and prepare some dinner, and when I saw something on the dining table, My forehead creased upon seeing a cooked meal with a note attached to it. ‘Enjoy.’ It was a steak with stir-fried vegetables on it. I would have thought it was Miriam who prepared this meal, but the note says otherwise. It must be Nathan. My eyes widened upon tasting it. It was surprisingly good, I thought. I continued to enjoy eating dinner. Right after that, I went to the seaside and lay down on the lounge chair. Hearing seawater slamming on the seaside and the fresh evening air, god, this was heaven. I continued to stare at the above, enjoying the night and the stars all together. All of a sudden, I see a figure evolving from the water. My forehead creased upon seeing it. I tried closing and opening my eyes to make sure I was seeing it right. It was Nathan. I cleared my throat and pretended not to see him because, once again, he was freaking topless. Since when did I become uncomfortable seeing topless men? ‘Are you going for a swim?’ he asked. “Huh?” Nathan sat on the vacant lounge chair beside me. “I’m asking if you’re going to swim right now?” I shook my head hurriedly. “No,” I replied, then cleared my throat. “I’m just going to sit here and enjoy the fresh air,” I added. Nathan nodded, then continued to dry his hair with the towel in his hands. “Did you like that steak?” He asked. “I was not sure if you would like it, didn’t know how you like your steak cooked.” “It was good,” I said. “Thank you for cooking dinner tonight.” He nodded. We were just both there, staring at the night sky and enjoying the quietness. I was about to fall asleep when Nathan spoke, rousing me to exit my drowsiness. “I highly suggest you sleep in your room,” He said. “It’s not safe to sleep here outside, there’s a lot of open space,” Nathan added. I nodded in agreement and stood up. “Yes, I will be taking my rest now,” I uttered before proceeding towards the house and to my room. ----- I woke up from the sounds of my phone ringing. I was still trying to open both of my eyes and reached for my phone on the nightstand. ‘Hello.’ ‘Did I wake you up?’ I grunted. ‘Obviously’ Addie laughed. ‘What is it? Why did you call so f*****g early in the morning?’ She cleared her throat before speaking up. ‘So, his secretary came in here looking for you.’ I took a deep breath upon hearing it. I hated where this conversation was going. ‘Just don’t tell them where I am.’ ‘As if! And besides, I don’t even know where the f**k you are.’ I placed the phone back on the nightstand and put it on the loudspeaker. ‘Alright. Just keep me on tabs and don’t let anyone know that I’m still in contact with you, just keep it hush, hush for now,’ ‘Okayyy. Byeee’ Addie uttered before ending the call. I stretched my body before standing up and heading to the balcony, and enjoying the fresh breeze of my surroundings. Then, below, I saw Neil and Nathan talking. It kinda looked like they were having fun because Nathan would be smiling from time to time during their small talks. I was still looking at them when Nathan moved his gaze towards me, and I didn’t know what the hell was wrong with me when I hurriedly sat down, trying to hide from him. “What the hell?” I uttered. “What the f**k is wrong with you, Anna?” I said while moving back myself towards the room while still sitting down. When I got inside, I lay on the bed staring at the ceiling. “What the f**k is wrong with me?” I uttered. “Why am I like this whenever Nathan is around?” I said. “Am I sick?” I asked myself, then proceeded to check my temperature with my palms. “I am not sick.” I stayed in my room for a good number of hours. It was almost lunch when Miriam knocked on my door. “Anna?” She uttered. “Are you alright? Are you not feeling well?” she added. I cleared my throat. “I’m okay, just working on something,” I explained. “I'll be down in a sec, just finishing something,” I added. “Alright,” Miriam replied, then I heard footsteps walking away from my door. I massed my temple. “God. This is bad, this is so bad,” I said before, finally standing up from the bed and exiting my room. When I got downstairs, Miriam was in the kitchen, and Nathan was nowhere to be seen. I took my seat at the dining table and started eating. Miriam then spoke while cleaning the kitchen. “Nathan is a very nice guy, Anna.” She said, “Oooh, really?” Miriam nodded and smiled at me. “I know you’re still hesitant towards the man, especially since you don’t know him, but I can feel he’s a nice man.” I nodded. He better be, because I have been nothing but nice to him. “I saw him and Neil getting along so well,” I said. Miriam nodded once again. “Yes, they plan to go fishing later on.” I moved my gaze toward Miriam. “Fishing?” I asked because, as far as I know, I didn’t see any boats. “Yes.” “How come?” I asked. “I mean, I don’t see any boats, or do we have boats?” I asked once more. Because, honestly, when I bought this place, the agent said it came with a lot of things, but I actually didn’t bother reading the whole list; I was just personally interested in the house. Miriam chuckled. “We do have a boat. It’s parked in the water cabin. You won’t see it because you haven’t been there yet,” She explained. I nodded, and thought to myself, maybe it’s time for me to read the goddam list and details of this house. After eating breakfast and lunch together, I went to the study and decided to read the details of the house. It turns out, there’s a lot that came with the house. It even came with a small ranch where I could ride horses. Then I thought maybe I should buy one, but then I didn't know how to ride a horse. I was quietly walking towards the ranch when I felt this feeling on my feet like something is moving on it. Then my eyes widened when I saw a snake crawling onto my f*****g feet. I couldn’t move at all. I was breathing so f*****g hard and panicking at the same time. Then Nathan saw me, his forehead creased upon seeing me. “What are you doing?” He asked. “Why are you standing so still?” Nathan asked. I closed my eyes briefly before speaking up so slowly. “There’s a snake on my feet,” I replied. Nathan then moved his gaze towards my feet, then moved it right back at me. “Don’t move,” He said. He got a wooden stick, then went near me. My eyes widened as I saw he was planning. I hurriedly tried to stop him. “No, don’t!” I said. But the ass-whole ignored my remarks. “I’ll count one to three. Upon reaching three, you’ll run towards me. Okay?” He said. All I could do was nod. I didn't exactly have a choice. I took a deep breath when he started to shove the stick towards the snake, and I ran as fast as I could and jumped towards him. My eyes were closed because I was so f*****g scared to get bitten. “Is it gone?” I asked without opening my eyes. “Yes,” Nathan replied. I opened both of my eyes and breathed in relief. When I saw that, there was no snake in plain sight. I hurriedly hugged Nathan so tightly and thanked him. “Oh my god. Thank you so much,” I said. “Thank you so much,” I said once again. “You can let go now,” he said. My eyes widened upon the realization that I was still hugging him. I hurriedly let go and cleared my throat. “Thank you,” I said before turning my back and walking so fast away from him, and not to add to my embarrassment, I could hear Nathan chuckling as I walked away from him. God! I'm starting to think I have some bad luck today. This day couldn't get any better at all.
