A buzzing sound alerted Luc to the strange sight of a winged creature following them. The moonlight shone silver on it, and it had a head sticking up in the middle of it. No, that wasn't the creature's head—it belonged to a man with goggles.
"It's Inspector Davidson," said Veronica. "What is that thing?"
"It looks like some sort of steam machine," Luc replied. When it got closer, he recognized the man's sandy brown hair and determined jawline.
"Marquis! Mrs. Kindred," Davidson called. "I'm going to hook you and try to direct you back to the Acadia Pearl."
