SAY YOU HATE ME

Anne’s breath hitched. The moment Adrian’s words brushed against her ear, her fingers loosened— The glass of wine slipped from her hand. It shattered on the ground. The sharp sound cut through the air, drawing attention instantly. “Anne?” Jimmy’s voice came quickly, laced with concern as he turned to her. “What happened?” She couldn’t speak. Her entire body felt frozen, her heart racing uncontrollably as she stepped back slightly, her eyes flickering nervously toward Adrian. Jimmy followed her gaze, confused. “Dad… what did you say to her?” For a brief second, the tension hung thick between them. Then Adrian straightened, his expression shifting effortlessly into something calm… almost amused. “You’ve got a pretty lady, I’m proud of your taste this time.” Adrian said. The weight behind his words made Anne’s chest tighten. Jimmy, however, broke into a grin. “You’re proud of me?’’ Jimmy said surprisingly. That’s the first he has ever told me that. “Wow… that’s—thank you.” Jimmy laughed lightly. It was obvious. That approval meant everything to him. Adrian glanced around the party, then spoke louder. “Everyone, enjoy yourselves. Tonight you’re the guests,no need to worry about me.” The music slowly picked back up. The tension faded. But not for Anne. Not even close. ⸻ Later— Jimmy stood with a group of his friends, laughter surrounding them as drinks were passed around. Anne stood beside him, trying to stay composed. Trying to breathe. “Bro,” one of them smirked, nudging Jimmy. “You’ve been with her for what—three months now?” “Have you and Anne hooked up yet?’’ “Heard she’s still a virgin, whoa virgin’’ , another of his friend added. “How’s she in bed, is she freaky enough?’’ His friends kept saying. “Of course!’’ Jimmy replied smiling Anne stiffened. She gripped by his short and said, “ Jimmy, what’s wrong with your friends? Aren’t you gonna say something?’’ Jimmy chuckled, clearly enjoying the attention. Jimmy then grabbed her towards him. “Forget them. Tonight’s about us.” Anne then pushed him. “You’re disappointing,” she said angrily Then one of them scoffed. “Man, you can’t even control your girl.” Jimmy’s expression darkened instantly. “Shut your damn mouth, who said I can’t control her’’ jimmy replied The guy smirked. “Then kiss her right now for everyone to see.” The crowd around them picked it up immediately. “Do it!” “Kiss her!” “Kiss her!” The chant grew louder. Anne’s heart pounded. Jimmy turned to her, stepping closer. Come on,” he said softly. But as he leaned in— Everything blurred. His face. His voice. Gone. Replaced. By another. Dark eyes. A deeper voice. A memory that refused to fade. Anne’s breath hitched. She stepped back quickly. “Anne what’s wrong?”. Jimmy asked “I… I can’t. I’m not feeling well, I need to use the bathroom .” Before anyone could stop her, she turned and ran. “Anne!” Jimmy called after her. But she didn’t stop. ⸻ The bathroom door slammed shut behind her. Silence. Finally. Anne gripped the edge of the sink, staring at her reflection. “What is wrong with me…” she whispered shakily. Her chest rose and fell unevenly. “It’s because of him…” Her eyes closed briefly. “it was not supposed to happen…” “That’s not how I imagined my first time to be” A tear slipped down her cheek. Then— A hand slid around her waist. She gasped. Then she looked up at the bathroom mirror. Her eyes snapped open— And there he was. Behind her. Adrian. Her breath caught instantly. “You again?” she whispered, panic rising. “Why are you here?” Instead, he turned her around slowly, his grip firm but controlled. Before she could react— He kissed her. Her body froze. Shock. Confusion. Something deeper she refused to name. Then she pushed against him. “What are you doing?” she snapped, stepping back. His gaze darkened. He pulled her back again, closer this time, his presence overwhelming. “You shouldn’t run from me, you are such a good girl.” he said quietly. “You’re insane,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “You’re a brute.” That only made his expression shift slightly. Amusement. Dangerous amusement. Before she could react, he lifted her effortlessly, setting her on the counter. Her breath caught. “I’ll scream,” she warned quickly. “I’ll call someone—” He leaned closer. “Jimmy is right outside,” he said calmly. “Are you sure you want him walking in on this?” Her words died instantly. Silence. Heavy. Then anger flared. She let go of his grip. “If it wasn’t for you,” she said, her voice trembling, “I wouldn’t be in this mess.” Adrian went still. “Oh?” he said slowly. “So now it’s my fault.” “I was leaving when you asked me to stay,” he said recalling what happened last night. He stepped back slightly. “Then I’ll leave.’’ He said almost angry. And just like that— He turned. Something twisted painfully in her chest. “Wait.” The word slipped out before she could stop it. He paused. Didn’t turn. Her heart raced. “Don’t forget…” she said quietly, trying to steady herself. “I’m your son’s girlfriend.” Now he turned. Slowly. His eyes locked onto hers. Dark. Unreadable. “Is that so?” he murmured. He stepped closer again. Too close. “Then tell me…” his voice dropped, softer now, more dangerous. “Have you missed me… as much as I’ve missed you? Her breath caught. His hand moved slightly above her chest— She grabbed his wrist. “Stop,” she whispered. “You can’t do this.” Silence. Then he leaned in slightly. “Say you hate me,” he said quietly. Her fingers tightened around his wrist. “If you say it…” he continued, his gaze locked onto hers, “I’ll stop.” The air between them grew heavy. Her heart pounded. Her thoughts tangled. Everything inside her screamed to say it. To end it. To push him away. But when she opened her mouth— The words refused to come out. Instead— “I don’t hate you.”
