THE MAN FROM LAST NIGHT

1085 Words
The music was loud. Too loud. But Anne could barely hear any of it. Her fingers tightened around the glass in her hand as she stood near the edge of the pool, her eyes unfocused, her thoughts far away from the laughter and flashing lights around her. All she could think about… was last night. Her breath hitched slightly as flashes replayed in her mind. Last night I actually gave my virginity to the wrong person. The door. The gun. His voice. The way everything had spiraled into something she hadn’t planned… something she hadn’t understood until it was already too late. She swallowed hard. I was supposed to be with Jimmy… Her grip on the glass tightened. Not him. A wave of unease settled deep in her chest. She hadn’t even seen Jimmy after that. No calls. No explanations. Nothing. And now— “Anne.” She froze. That voice. Her heart skipped as she slowly turned around. Jimmy stood there, dressed casually but perfectly, like he belonged in every room he walked into. A small smile played on his lips, but his eyes searched her face carefully. “Hey,’’ he said stepping closer. You’ve been avoiding me. Her lips parted, but no words came out. Avoiding him? If only he knew. “I… I wasn’t,” she managed, her voice softer than she intended. He frowned slightly. “Then why didn’t you pick up my calls this morning?” The irony almost made her laugh. Her? Ignoring him? But instead, she just shook her head. “I was just… tired.” Jimmy studied her for a moment, then sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t be mad, I didn’t mean to bail last night.’’ “Tonight, I will make it up to you alright,’’ Jimmy said to her interrupting her thoughts. Her heart clenched. I didn’t mean to bail. That was all? No explanation. No guilt. Just that. And suddenly, the words sat heavily at the tip of her tongue. Tell him. Tell him what happened. Tell him that she had waited. That someone else had come instead. That everything had gone wrong. Her fingers trembled slightly. But when she looked at Jimmy… at the ease in his expression, the lack of urgency in his apology… The words died. “…It’s fine,” she said quietly. Jimmy relaxed immediately, smiling. “Good. I knew you’d understand.” Something about that made her chest ache. Before she could think too much about it, Jimmy clapped his hands lightly and stepped back. “Alright, enough of that. Party hasn’t even started yet.” He turned, raising his voice. “Let’s get this started!” Cheers erupted around them. Music blasted louder. People rushed toward the pool, laughter filling the air as drinks were passed around, bodies moving, energy rising. The party was alive. But Anne wasn’t. She stood there, disconnected, her thoughts still tangled in everything she didn’t say. ⸻ Time passed. She didn’t know how much. The sky had darkened slightly when it happened. The shift. It was subtle at first. The laughter quieted. The music seemed to fade. And then— Silence. Anne frowned slightly, looking around. People were moving. No—scrambling. Stepping aside. Creating space. Fear. Real fear. Her stomach tightened. “What’s going on…?” she murmured. Then she felt it. A presence. Heavy. Cold. Commanding. Her breath caught as her eyes lifted toward the entrance. And then she saw him. Everything inside her froze. Him. The man from last night. The same dark eyes. The same controlled expression. The same dangerous aura that had filled the hotel room— Now standing in broad daylight. And suddenly… everything made sense. Her pulse skyrocketed. No… No, it can’t be— But it was. Because everyone around her was reacting. Respect. Fear. Submission. And in that moment— She understood. That’s not just a man. That’s power. Adrian Corine. Jimmy’s father. Her vision blurred slightly as memories from the night before crashed into her all at once. Her breathing became uneven. He had been there. With her. In that room. And now— He was here. Jimmy moved suddenly, excitement replacing everything else as he walked forward. “Dad.” Anne’s stomach dropped. Dad. Her legs felt weak. She couldn’t move. Couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. Adrian’s gaze swept across the crowd slowly… And then— It landed on her. Everything inside her went still. He didn’t look surprised. If anything— He looked like he had been expecting this. For a brief moment, he said nothing. Then he turned slightly to one of his men. “ Come here, find the woman from room 2018 last night,” he said quietly. But before the man could move— Adrian’s gaze returned to Anne. And a faint, almost invisible smirk touched his lips. “Never mind.” He had already found her. ⸻ Jimmy turned back, grabbing Anne’s wrist gently. “Come,” he said, pulling her forward. Her feet moved, but she felt disconnected from her own body. “No—Jimmy, I—” But it was too late. They were already in front of him. Too close. Way too close. “Dad,” Jimmy said proudly, placing a hand on Anne’s back. “This is Anne… my girlfriend.” Silence. Heavy. Dangerous. Adrian’s eyes darkened slightly. “Girlfriend?” he repeated slowly. Anne forced herself to look up. Their eyes met. And just like that— Last night came rushing back. Her throat went dry. “H-hi… sir,” she said, her voice barely steady. Sir. The word lingered in the air. Adrian’s gaze didn’t leave hers. Then, slowly— He stepped closer. Too close. He extended his hand. “Come here.” It wasn’t a request. Anne hesitated. Her heart was pounding violently now. But under Jimmy’s expectant gaze… she had no choice. She stepped forward. Slowly. Carefully. And then— She wrapped her arms around him. The moment her body touched his— Everything from last night came crashing back. The warmth. The closeness. The confusion. Her breath caught. And then— He leaned down slightly. Close enough that only she could hear him. His voice was low. Dangerous. Intimate. “Sir?” he murmured. A pause. Then— “That’s not what you called me last night.” Her entire body went rigid. Her fingers clenched slightly against him. Her heart stopped. And in that moment— Anne realized something terrifying. Last night… Wasn’t a mistake.
