CairoOn 2nd November the four of them set off for Egypt.
Eliot was attending his sister’s wedding in South America and had agreed reluctantly that Emma should go to Egypt without him.
‘You’ll keep an eye on her,’ he said confidently to Jack. ‘Don’t let any harm come to her.’
It crossed Jack’s mind that his request was rather like someone asking the fox to look after a chicken, but he dismissed the thought as unworthy at once, and assured Eliot, and himself, that he would be responsible for Emma’s well being.
