CHAPTER 10 Akhenaten’s CityIn the morning they set off very early for Akhenaten’s city. They missed another call from Mary, who, once again, left a message that was not delivered. They drove south through the depressing town of Mallawi, and arrived in time for the first car ferry across to Amarna and the east bank. While they were waiting in the queue, Jack wondered if the others’ hearts were beating as fast as his in anticipation of what they might find in the ruined city. But the loading was so slow and noisy and needed such concentration on his part, he almost forgot the significance of the place they were about to visit.
