CHAPTER 6 Akhenaten SpeaksSotheby’s sold Jack’s tomb guardian to a country museum for a considerable sum. The night he heard about the sale, the guardian returned to his apartment. He saw its shadow out of the corner of his eye as he passed from the living room to the kitchen. He spun round to face it, but there was nothing there. He switched on the light. The shadow was gone. He peered at the plants hanging below the skylight to see if they could have cast the shadow. But it was not likely. He glanced angrily at the place where the statue had stood for so many years, and then went back into the living room.
