The Southern TombsAt home in England Mary tried several times to contact the group by telephone, and on the fourth attempt, when she asked for Miss Emma Forsyth directly, she was told that there was no person of that name staying at the hotel. Responding to her obvious agitation at this piece of information, the desk clerk called for the assistance of someone nearby who could speak a little more English.
Mary insisted that she had been told her friend was staying at that hotel and was travelling with a group of three other English people.
