Danes POV
Dane drives into his office space" Blue Woods". After picking up coffee along the way. He walks into his office; he sees his assistant, Kelly, at the front desk.
"Good morning, Mr Dane," she said, standing up to receive him.
"Morning, Kelly," Dane said as he walked into his office.
Dane closed the door behind him, sitting at his desk. He takes out a couple of files and starts reading through them.
Dane remembered how fast life had been, and now he had a mate he was fully responsible for. The pack was expanding, and it was new to him.
Kelly knocks on the door.
"Yes, Kelly," he said as her knock brought him back to reality.
"Mr Dane, you have a guest," Kelly said, sounding uncomfortable passing this information.
Dane's brow furrowed. A guest? "That's kind of odd, he thought.
"Who is this guest?" he asks.
"I'm sorry, Sir, but she said you should please come see her in the lobby." Sounding extremely uncomfortable now.
She? A she? Who would that be by this time of the day? Did his mate come to surprise him? He thought. He had never seen Kelly this uncomfortable before.
"Okay, I'll be there in a second," Dane said.
Kelly immediately closes the door hurriedly.
Dane gets up and takes a deep breath before stepping out of the office and heading towards the entrance of his office. As he approached the small lobby, a familiar scent hit him as a lady looked up at him. She was wearing red lipstick with beautiful deep blue eyes and a pink bodycon gown. Dan's eyes widen. It was Lily Drapes, Dane's ex.
She looks at Dane with slight disappointment in her eyes.
"Hello, Dane," Lily said.
"Hello, Lily," Dane said as he stared at her with total shock on his face.
The air suddenly gets tighter as Dane. Confusion filled his mind. What does Lily want? Dane struggled to compose himself.
“I assume I was the last person you were expecting to see?” Lily said with a smug expression.
“You have no idea,” Dane said.
Maintaining composure in his tone, he starts heading towards his office. Without being told, Lily follows him behind and closes the door behind a curious Kelly. Dane takes a seat. Lily takes in the office surroundings.
“Fancy space you’ve got” Lily Said
“What’s going on, Lily?” Dane said, sounding impatient.
“I see you don’t have time for small talk,” Lily said, taking a seat.
“We both know you are always full of surprises,” Dane said with sarcasm in his tone.
“I see your memory of me has been untouched,” Lily said.
“Head straight to the point, Lily,” Dane said.
“ I see you still look at me like the first time we met,” Lily said, staring right into his eyes.
“I’ve moved on; I just need to know why you showed up here,” Dane said, furrowing his brows.
“ You can’t deny it; I can see it…” Lily said as Dane immediately cut her short.
“ Lily!!!" Why are you here???” Dane said in a loud voice.
“I’m in trouble, Dane. "I can’t explain everything here; I need your help,” Lily said.
Dane’s heart sank. He had always known Lily to be strong, and she never showed fear. Her eyes looked sad and worried. “What kind of trouble?” Dane said.
“It’s a lot heavier than I can say, but I need your help, Dane. I have no one else to turn to,” Lily said in a sad tone.
Dane studying her expression. His mind raced with multiple questions.
“You have always had your way around things. Why do you need my help no”w? Dane asked.
“I believe that you will help me; you are my last… hope,” Lily said as tears swelled up in her eyes.
Dane always hated seeing her cry. His heart melted.
Does this have anything to do with the dark pack? Dane said, studying her expression.
Without looking at him, “Yes,” she said.
Dane cursed silently. “ I’ll make my findings. "I still don’t trust you, Lily," Dane said.
“Please trust me, Dane,” Lily said with a sad expression. “I know I’ve given you enough reason to doubt me for a lifetime, but trust me, I am in danger,” Lily said.
“Alright, what do you want me to do?” Dane said.
Standing up, she walked to the door handle and stopped. “I can’t talk here; I know I am being followed. I’ll send you a location in a few days. "Thank you, Dane,” Lily said as she opened the door and walked out.
Dane slumped on his chair. With Lily around his life, something chaotic always happens. He knew he still had a soft spot for her, but his mate was his priority now. He picked up his phone and dialed a number. It headed straight to voicemail.
“Yes, I need you to make findings about Lily Drapes and her involvement with the Black Claw.”
Janice POV
Janice strolled through the corridors of the house. She found herself actually missing Dane, and she found herself blushing at his note occasionally. Brenda had shown her around the house, and she was bored. She had brought her art; she planned to own an art shop; it was one of her dreams.
She walked into a room, and a female scent hit her. She knew it was a sophisticated female, and there were none of the scents in the house. Was Dane still seeing someone recently? She felt a knot in her chest. Looking at the room, she closed the door behind her and headed straight to her room. Dane drives into the familiar parking lot. His mind was scrambled, and he felt drained. He sat in the car listening to a few songs before he stepped into the house.
"Welcome, Mr Dane," Brenda said, smiling. "I'm glad you are back, Sir; your Luna has been lonely," Brenda said from the dinner.
"Thank you," Dane said, forcing a smile as he headed up the stairs. He actually missed Janice's sarcastic comments and the way she spoke. In such a short time, his mate was rubbing off on him. Walking into the room, he meets a surprise. Janice had rearranged the room, and it looked beautiful. She
Sat on the bed reading a novel, with a cup of tea behind her.
"I see you were bored today," Dane said, trying to light up the room.
"Welcome, Dane," Janice said without looking up; her eyes stood glued to the book.
Dane? Since when did she call me by my name? He thought silently. What did I do? We literally just got married yesterday. What could I have done today?
"Dane?" Since when do you call me Dane?" Dane asked with a smug look on his face.
"Since today," Janice said without looking up.
Dane ignored her and walked into the shower, stepping out a few minutes later. Drying his dark hair with his towel. He sighs and walks up to her. He sits on the bed, staring at her for a few seconds. He takes the book out of her hand gently. She folds her arm defensively, looking at him.
"What did I do?" Dane asked with a concerned look on his face.
Finally looking at him. "Why do you think you've done anything wrong?"
"You called me by my name, you barely looked at me, and you didn't respond to my sarcastic comment; everything was wrong," Dane said.
"Well, since you want to know so badly, I toured the house today," Janice said.
Dane's expression dropped. "Let me guess, you entered the guest room," Dane asked.
"Yes," Janice said without batting an eye. "And I perceived a female scent," Janice continued.
Dane held back his smirk; thankfully the room was getting dark.
"Yeahhh, that's the room where my guests sleep. Besides some members of our pack have gone to get wood outside the town."
"You seem to have only female guests," Janice said.
Is that jealousy I am hearing in her tone? Janice jealous? Dane smirks.
"Actually, it smells like a female because it is female. "My brother camps there with his lady when he is in town," Dane said.
Janice's expression drops. Dane almost laughs but restrains himself. Her face was priceless.
"Are we good now, mate?" he asked with a smirk on his face.
Janice nods.
"Great, let me get something to eat," Dane said as he walked away, closing the door behind her, leaving her to her thoughts.
