went home the next morning still confused on the idea of the job. I wasn't complaining, it wasn't like I had an alternative or something but the job description was a tad bit ridiculous. Why would a full grown man like that need a care taker. It was just absurd to think of or even talk about.
I told Mary I was going to accept the job and she embraced me, assuring me that I would not regret my decision. She immediately made a call before I left the house this morning to her friend saying she found someone who was willing to take the job.
I expected the traffic for the job to be insane since it entails working closely with a huge and extremely hot celebrity but I was shocked when I heard I was accepted for the job and I am expected to start working the next day.
A letter was sent to my email. In it was a contract that had things like I'm not allowed to take selfies in the penthouse, or post about my job online or make comments about working with the Lawson's. How I was to ignore him in public and refuse any scandals that may arise.
I was reading through the contract when my eyes almost popped out of the socket just seeing the amount my pay was going to be. I had to recount the zeros to be sure I wasn't dreaming. I was going to be paid 500k a month. It was more than ridiculous. Heck, if I was paid 500k a year I would be bawling. Although it made me think how hard the job was going to be for it to be so high paying.
I was still in shock but I continued reading the contract. My job description was very much detailed too. I was to make sure he took his vitamins, cook his breakfast and dinner. Pack a small lunch to work for him. Wake him up at 6:30. Make sure he goes to bed at 11pm prompt. Prepare his clothes ahead. Shop for groceries, take care of the penthouse. Make sure he goes for his monthly check ups.
I really thought the "care taker" thing was just a term. I didn't know I was actually going to be taking care of a full grown man like he was a ten year old and as far as the public is concerned, he is not handicapped. So all of this was a bit weird but I definitely was not in the position to ask questions.
I closed my laptop and bounced on my bed, my face facing the ceiling. So much has happened in my life in the past few hours, it was insane. I picked my phone up and texted Gina, so she would reply me when she wakes up since I left before she woke up.
When I got home my mom was getting ready to leave for work. She didn't question me, she just glared at me for 5 seconds before giving instructions "I'll be back by 5pm, there's pasta in the oven. Give the keys to Ken if you have to go out. Love you, bye." She recited her regular morning ritual with an apple in her mouth and a bottle of water in the same hand her keys are hanging off.
Ken was our neighbor, he's an old chap but he's the sweetest. He married his wife in that house and refused to leave even after she passed away, so he stays there alone since all their
grandkids are abroad, either working or studying. We invited him over for dinner once in a while and I tried to go over to play monopoly or something when I was bored.
I guess I was going to tell her about my whole job situation in the night then.
I slept off thinking of the possibilities this new job held for me
_________
I woke up the next morning more than excited for my first day at my new job. I washed my face and rushed downstairs to see my brother eating a bowl of cereal on the kitchen counter. He seemed to be dressed up for school but one can never tell, he's very nonchalant about his dressing.
Jake is in his sophomore year in high school so we're all working hard to send him to his dream college. He's the smart one so we're hoping he can get into Harvard. It's a long shot but it's worth it. I've never regretted dropping out of college to help out at home. I never liked school anyway, it was always a forced situation for me if I'm being honest.
"What's up bumkin" I teased as I roughed his head up when I walked into the kitchen. "Ugh, get off me Lia. You messed my hair up now" he whined sounding bothered when we both knew he didn't care how he looked to school.
I just rolled my eyes and ignored him "aren't you late for school?" I asked looking at the time, it was 9am and school started at 8:30. He just shrugged still eating his cereal as slow as possible "it's AP physics, it's boring. They be teaching us like we're juniors or sumn" he sprawled out with milk splashing out of his mouth.
"Fine I get it, stop washing me with milk you dumb s**t" I said wiping me face off. He just chuckled as he finished off his cereal. I shook my head at him, he was the most nonchalant smart person I had ever met.
He picked up his bag and walked out the front door shouting on his way out "have a nice day at work, love you sis" with that he slammed the door and walked out. I rolled my eyes because he has been warned several times not to slam the door.
His words sank immediately, I definitely was going to have a nice day at work. With that in mind I squealed in excitement and literally skipped up the stairs to go get ready.
