SCENE SIX Liturgy of the Catechumens An empty metro carriage flooded with an absent white light. He thought this was eternity. It felt very lonely, but a detachment appeared in a passageway, wearing white tunics with gold epaulettes. Ahead of his officers, the commander approached, really just a youth, tall, with a face that seemed to glow. Light, strength, all that is noble in man, calm, fearless. He stopped, and everything stopped. He silently kissed him on the forehead and departed. Something told him that this youth had come to call him. He knew he could follow right now, leave everything behind, forget even himself, but he was afraid of eternity, which was where the detachment had gone. He was afraid, and then it was too late. He was back in the carriage, as empty now as it had been
