Chapter 4 - Confidence   The next thing I knew Christian was by my side, pushing the mystery man back. "Are you okay what happened?!" He asked concerned, "I'm... Fine..." I managed to get out. "Well excuse me, you don't look fine. Come on, lets get you home." He said as he began to peel me off of the sticky dance floor. As I rose up I locked eyes with my knight in shining armour, as I did it was like the world melted away around me. Perhaps it was all of the cocktails throwing out my inhibition, but now my only concern was the possibility of leaving this club without knowing who he was. The fact I may never see him again or feel the bizarre heat between us, made me feel cold and empty inside. "I'm not ready to go yet." I stated as I pulled myself back into the 21st century, my eyes never leaving his. Christian looked at me curiously and then back to the mystery man, his eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw him. "Um Mia, do you realise..." started Christian, but I cut him off mid way through. "Can I buy you a drink?" I yelled over to him, trying my best to be heard over the booming music. His eyes lit up and he gave me the most gorgeous smile, which of course sent the butterflies in motion once again. "Sure, why not." He said simply as he began to walk towards me, closing the gap between us. He motioned for us to sit at a table nearby while sending a nod over to the barman. Christian to my dismay followed us closely and sat between us at the table, before anyone could speak the barman brought over a very expensive looking bottle of champagne. s**t, I thought to myself. This bottle was probably more expensive than my entire apartment costs to run a month, "Okay okay, Mr big shot." Said Christian as he helped himself to a glass. The mystery man let out a chuckle which sent shivers down my spine. "So what's your name?" I asked him, as I did Christian snorted back into his glass giving the guy another reason to send my body into turmoil as he shot me another smile. "My names Jack, and yours?" he replied, my breath hitched in my throat, of course he had the most perfect name. "I'm Mia." I said as I waved at him awkwardly, seriously Mia... I gave myself a mental slap across the face at my awkwardness. Suddenly the music changed abruptly, the sound of the old fashioned 80s synth echoed throughout the club. Christian stood up quickly and turned to me, "Mia, I have to go dance to this it is the song I need to be buried too." He said dramatically, as he swiped his hand across his forehead. "I'll be right here, i swear I wont move." I reassured him, without saying another word he sauntered off towards the dance floor. I started laughing, I loved how he was unapologetically himself. "Are you sure you're okay?" Jack asked me, when I turned back to look at him I was shocked to see he was mere inches from my side. I could almost feel his body heat radiating towards mine, "Yes, I'm fine but thank you. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't of been there." I said trying not to be awkward and nervous. Something in him changed, his face turned from concerned to hard in seconds. His jaw clenched tightly and his eye turning dark. "When I saw him dragging you off, I felt this intense rage. Honestly the guys got off lucky." He said before finishing off his glass of champagne. "Why did you get so angry?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me as I craved to discover more about Jack. "Well, without sounding cheesy..." He started, "I feel very protective over you, maybe its because you're clumsy as hell but I had been watching you for a while with your friend. You looked so carefree and fun and I hated the thought of someone taking that away from you." I couldn't help but blush, this guy really was genuinely concerned with my safety. I wonder if he had felt the same connection towards me as I felt for him. "Yeah, it would have been the icing on the cake today." I said letting out a small chuckle as the weight of my situation fell heavy on my shoulders once again. He looked at me confused, he passed me a glass of the expensive champagne and motioned for me to continue. I took a sip obediently before telling him about my disaster of a day. "Well I woke up this morning thinking I was going to get the biggest promotion of my life, when in fact I went into work and lost my job. That's the whole reason we were out to just let loose after the day of disappointment!" I said trying not to sound too upset about the whole ordeal. "Did your friend get fired too?" He asked curiously. "Oh no, we weren't fired. The entire company went bust, we were all told to go home. I worked for Frederick's publication company, just as an editor for "Attraction" magazine." I tried to hide the distain and embarrassment in my voice, looking back on it now this is probably the best thing to happen to me. I could really focus now on where I wanted to be. "Well it sounds like you weren't that into the job anyway." Wow, this guy must be really good at reading people, I've always been told I have a great poker face- but of course Jack saw right through it. "No I liked the job, but I hated the magazine. Fashion and gossip isn't really my thing. I'd like to write about real world stuff one day."  I said giving him a warm smile. Suddenly a man in a dark suit appeared to the side of Jack, he bent down and whispered something in his ear which made him frown and roll his eyes. "I'm sorry but I have to go." He said, suddenly rising up from the table. What? Surely this couldn't be the end? I hadn't even gotten his number! Christian was suddenly at my side again, polishing off the last of the expensive champagne. "I'll see you again Mia." He said smiling a devilish grin at me before grabbing my hand and planting a soft kiss on the back, it immediately sent tingles up my arm and down my body. Without thinking I grabbed him and kissed him, the kiss was so intense and hot it was like we were the only two people in the room. He traced my lips with his tonge asking for access which I granted no questions asked. His hands were locked tight around my waist possessively, keeping me from breaking the kiss (Not that I ever wanted this to end). Even though my eyes were closed I became aware that the lights in the club had become a lot more flashy, I opened them slightly and something caught my eye making me break away from the kiss. Paparazzi? Why were we now literally surrounded by them, and why were they taking pictures of us kissing? Before he could clear up any confusion, Jack muttered "s**t" before bolting towards the exit. He left me stood there, dumbfounded and surrounded by paparazzi. I didn't have time to be confused for long, Christian swung his coat over me hiding me from the intrusive flashes and we made our way to the exit.
