The Blonde Bombshell

Chapter 2- Blonde Bombshell We hurried into the main entrance of the prestigious Frederick building, my heels making a satisfying click clacking noise against the freshly polished white marble floor. The foyer was bustling as always, I always liked to think of it as organised Chaos. Assistants were walking and dodging others quickly whilst trying to balance numerous disposable coffee cups, each trying to get to the gate first to scan their entrance card. God forbid that their editors didn’t get their coffee on time… I remember when I first started and I was in their position, every day was ridiculously nerve wracking due to the bottom line editors wanting to make your life as a coffee b***h hell! But I’m stronger than most, I managed to stick it out and now look at me- about to go for a huge promotion in only 5 years of working here. “Umm, Mia is it me or is something off right now?” Said Christian, pulling me from my job day dream. I shook my head slightly as I tried to look around and see what he was talking about, he was right everyone was rushing around more than usual… I walked up to Trevor the security guard as I took out my pass to scan “Hey, what’s going on? Why is it so crazy today?” I asked him. “Haven't you heard? All of the editors in chief have been pulled into a meeting with Mr Frederick himself! They’re all up in his office right now.” He said with a worried look on his face. I turned to look at Christian, he too was looking at me concerned. Mr Frederick never came into the building unless it was an emergency, most of us had never even seen him in the flesh! There must be something big going on… “It’s probably about the Christmas bonuses, try not to worry Trevor!” I said as I have him a reassuring smile, I then scanned my pass and walked through the high tech metal detectors towards the elevator. “You didn’t have to lie to him…” whispered Christian who was hot on my heels. I turned back to face him as I waited for the elevator, “I didn’t wanna have to tell him that it means more jobs are getting cut! He’s got a family you know?” I said matter of factly. “Besides, we will all find out soon enough. You know what Francis is like, she couldn’t keep a secret to save her own ass!”. We both started to laugh as the elevator dinged, as I turned to make my way in I collided with what only could be described as solid rock. It sent me flying backwards landing me right on my ass in front of everyone else piling into the elevators. I was blinded by shock for a second, before I felt a strong hand grip itself tightly around my arm as the man I’d collided with pulled me up off of the cold floor with such strength I felt like a doll. “I’m so sorry, I should’ve been looking where I was going!” I blurted out as I looked up at his face for the first time. He had big sunglasses on and a scarf that covered almost half of the bottom his face, he pulled down his sunglasses slightly so his deep brown chocolate eyes locked with mine for the first time. “Are you okay Miss?” He asked, his voice was deep and like silk. “I’m, yeah I’m fine.” I blushed as I looked down at his hand still gripping my arm tightly, it sent shocks up through my body making me tingle. His grip didn’t hurt but it seemed possessive which was oddly nice? All thoughts of the dreaded meeting were suddenly gone as I lost myself almost completely in this mysterious man. “Good, you should be more careful next time.” He said as he released my arm and then carried on walking out of the building and out of my life, my god who was that? I was rooted to the spot, unable to move as I tried to figure out why I had reacted that way to a random stranger. I never usually reacted that way to men, it had been a good two years since my last relationship and i ended up with my heart broken. I had basically vowed celibacy since, only hooking up with the odd tinder match here and there. Id work myself up as I went through periods of loneliness, wanting a boyfriend and then changing my mind each time I got even the slightest bit close to someone of the opposite s*x, I had commitment issues that much was certain. But there was something about this mystery guy that had me weak at the knees and my underwear dripping, I didn’t even get his name. My god, how sad am I? Maybe I just needed a release later on… “Hello? Earth to Mia!” Said Christian as he waved his hands in front of my face. “We gotta go!” He urged as he practically pushed me into the elevator, I gave myself a mental slap around the face as we began the upward journey to Attraction HQ. Before I knew it we were on our floor, and just as I stepped out of the elevator I was greeted by a very unhappy looking Francis. She was stood there in all her barbie might, arms crossed and her foot tapped impatiently on the floor. Her lips were pursed together tightly, like she had just swallowed a wasp; when her cold eyes locked onto my face her face stiffened which shocked me, I always thought she’d had so much Botox she had lost all feeling in her muscles. “All editors to the meeting room please.” She barked at me before she stomped off, leaving what felt like a trail of ice behind her. Right on cue Christian shivered next to me before rolling his eyes heavily, I couldn’t help but smile at him as we followed the ice queens path to doomsday… As we sat down in the large white room, I looked around at the other editors in there- they all looked terrified. I however was determined to remain optimistic, our magazine was one of Fredericks biggest money makers and Francis would be an i***t to sack any of the current editors. That is if that’s what the meeting was about… Everyone began to pull out their notebooks and pens, ready to take note on what Francis was about to tell us. I did the same so I didn’t look like a total d**k, but I rarely paid any attention to what the mega b***h says/wants for an issue. I always go with my gut instinct which has worked out good for me so far. Francis walked to the front of the room to address us all, her fingers pinching the bridge of her nose as she went. She didn’t look so good right now… the feeling of uneasiness began to set in as I anxiously waited for her to open her mouth. “Okay, so… I don’t know how to put this…” she sighed, refusing to make eye contact with anyone in the room. “This morning I attending a meeting with Mr. Frederick, and he informed me that Fredericks publication company is… in trouble. In order to… cut some costs he’s closing the bottom 9 publications for the mean time until a buyer comes in and saves the day.” She sat down on the top swivel chair and rubbed her forehead aggressively, the room fell silent. “To be clear…” she continued without lifting her head. “We are in that list, so you can all just… go home.” She finished flatly. “But they can’t just fire us, we have bills to pay and family’s to support.” Piped up Rebecca who was sat on the other side of me. “Oh I assure you, they can. Anyone who needs a recommendation email my personal email because my work one was closed at 2am this morning.” Retorted Francis, although I hated her I felt bad for her- but not nearly as bad as I felt for myself right now. I turned to Christian who looked as pale as a ghost, with nothing but worry etched in his eye. This was officially the worst birthday in the history of birthdays
