Chapter 9: Andres in the City

Andres's second day in the city was remarkable. A change was under way, and this change would greatly affect him. That morning, Margarito and Andres went to the the company where Margarito was working. Margarito referred Andres to the banker, Don Rogelio, since they were needing a bookkeeper. Don Rogelio interviewed and trained Andres. This old man was so impressed with his trainee that the trainee was hired at once. And also, because of Andres's notable intelligence, Don Rogelio enrolled him to the best university in the city. There, Andres took up accountancy, and eventually, law. Andres felt very grateful. he thanked Don Rogelio for trusting him, and he also thanked God for giving him such blessings. Of course, Andres was still religious. Every weekend, he managed to go to his place of worship, and he did it gratefully. In time, Andres was promoted to higher ranks, thus, he was able to earn much money to support himself. But he never forgot his family - the reason why he worked in the city. He gave them sufficient money to supplement for the expenses at home. Also, during his law studies, Andres met Manuel, an intelligent law student like him. They became good friends, and eventually these two fellows topped their respective classes. Manuel was eventually acquainted with Margarito. These three young men gradually became close friends, and thy became popular in the city. And they worked, relaxed, and studied together. Eventually, these three men discovered their talents in music, so they decided to form a band, with Andres as the vocalist. Because of this, they became popular, and they earned much prosperity from their music career. Andres also engaged into the leisures of the city. He enjoyed going to fairs, cinemas, concerts, and the like. He tried almost every kind of entertainment. The only leisure areas where Andres and his friends did not go were disco houses, bars, and gambling places. But Andres's studies was not left behind. He garnered many awards as a student, making Don Rogelio, the Calderons, and his family proud of him. Eventually, as purposed, he became a lawyer. Andres's life did not end there. He continued to work, now, as a lawyer. He preferred to work independently, but he never forgot his humble beginnings. He was still wondering, after several years, of what was happening home. But for Andres, life had been so good, and he was very grateful every time he thought about it.
