The Supremos were having a happy day. After several years, Andres finally finished high school - with many awards. He was the best among the graduates of their school. As a result, the family decided to have a feast.
They invited some of Andres's teachers to the feast. Among those invited were his teachers, Atanacio and Policarpio. They were the most prominent teachers in town. They appreciated Andres very much, and they took time to tell this to his parents.
"You really have a very smart child," Atanacio said. "He really outsmarted all students in school - and even some teachers!"
"Yes," Policarpio added. "And sometimes we just do not notice that he even corrects us. I guess he could become a lawyer, and how I wish all our students were like him."
"Thank you for your appreciation," Ricardo replied. "You know, he really loves to learn. All day, if there are no classes, he would walk around the town to find something new to explore."
"Ah, I see. So he is the one that we see walking around the town proper during weekends. Now we know why he is so updated with things," Policarpio remarked.
"The food is ready," Tomasa said. "Let us eat!" Before eating Panfilo led the prayer. After praying, all who came enjoyed the food that the Supremos prepared. There were roasted fish and roasted chicken, as well as garlic soup and brown rice. There were also fruits of different kinds, together with grape wine and different kinds of cheese imported from different lands. Never again that the Supremos had such a feast with such kinds of food.
After they ate, there was music. Panfilo played the harp, Andres played the flute, Ricardo played the drums, and Tomasa played the tambourine. Atanacio and Policarpio competed in singing while the women danced.
It was late afternoon when the feast ended. Before leaving, some of the guests left gifts to Andres. Meanwhile, Atanacio and Policarpio just left after the party without even saying good-bye or thanking Andres's family.
Policarpio and Atanacio, both under the influence of alcohol, started their journey to their homes but none of them ever returned home. On their way, both of them fell into a pit, and they died immediately.
Meanwhile, after the feast, the Supremos prayed, thanking God for that wonderful day. After that, they did their usual activities, and they slept. They did not know what would happen next. They were unconscious of the thing that lies ahead of them. And, of course, that thing would surely bring great changes to them.
