THE GUARDIAN

1163 Words
Kyle wakes up at that moment, and meanwhile hugging me crying for my sake through a mind-link he warns our family that I had woken up. Mother and father arrived soon, following Zara, her being alone and her puffy cried eyes, let me know my family has been torn. Zoe is dead. We would not be the same anymore, Zara would not be the same anymore. They are here to cheer me. I'm safe, but my training and the elf in my room let this moment be difficult, I need answers. Looking in his same changing grey/green eyes my father explain to me: “Son you have saved my life and the life of the Ljósálfars, you have been able to shift earlier due to the circumstances and now for our law you are an adult. The light elves’ king appointed you, for your bravery and willingness to protect Nortbard, as the Guardian of the entrance to the elf’s castle and the only owner of the Wolfdancer as you survived its blade.” “What does it mean? And why do you all look to me like I’m a monster? If I’ve shifted I’m also able to recover completely, and really I feel good” I answered looking up at their faces. “Cris you have been stabbed with a magical artifact….” Kyle tried to explain. Mom gave me a mirror in which I could see my reflection, my perfect facial features were highlighted by the freckles, I’m a handsome guy if it wasn’t for the scar resting now on my left cheek and running through my chest. “If it wasn’t for the healing powers of Sandyr you would be dead by now” my mom said while sobbing, the loss of a daughter, my injury and the loss of some of our people give my mom as well as Luna a dreadful pain to live with. “From now on, you have your Guardian duties and you can never be involved in any pack affair, the Elf’s King has chosen you for your bravery, giving you more power over the Giant mountain than any other magical creature can have, he has told us that you will be the only one able to understand it” my father stated. I was startled, I’ve always seen myself as a warrior a man of action training the young ones, surely not a guardian, but my father was right I could understand why I was the chosen one, I could feel the earth, I could sense the energy around me, I can tell who is an enemy. This would explain also why I was so versed in the studies about their culture. I’m brave…. I will not crumble in front of any dare. Some days after… I'm back at home, and my life at the moment hasn’t changed so much, I’m missing my sister and her pranks, Zara looks like she lost a part of her, luckily she still has her mate, Zuriel, our head of Warriors.  Kyle is still mateless so he cannot take over my father’s position till the pack would have a new Luna, so he is supposed to travel a bit more this year, he is 23 and it’s time for him to settle down. My wolf Colt is helping me adjust to this new reality, I’m still too young to have a full grown wolf and being a Guardian will be a tough job. I feel like I’m on the edge of a cliff with a thousand rocks coming my way, and I just can't move. “Let's check our territory!” Colt said, running till our borders. As we arrived at the river he insisted: “We have to go  early in the morning so sleep tight while you can!”.  Since we had to be so early and I was having a very rough week I decided to rest now so I’d be more energetic tomorrow. I shift and Colt took over and a huge magnificent silver wolf is reflecting in the water. My father's wolf is silver just like mine, only I am bigger, scarrier and probably much more handsome. Running back to the pack house, I felt like a part of the nature around me. Lately, when I’m in my wolf form, I feel more connected to the world and to the earth below me, a feeling always present just dulled when in human form.. I was supposed to shift only 2 years from now, but now my life’s plan has changed so that I’m completely dedicated to the mission. I have concerns about my future life, my mate and why the Moon Goddess gave me this commitment. I arrive at the pack house, get a red apple from the counter and go to my bedroom to rest for the few hours I had left. The next day, running through the territory we arrived at the slopes of the Giant mountain where the last giant died to protect the castle, his body still resting on the land. A massive flaming red rocky mountain hiding the earthly valleys and the clearings in which no human or magical creature is allowed. Only the Ljósálfar people could enter the mountain, and now I could enter at my please, they have accepted me. It’s our first time so close to the mountain we just ran down the slope through the river. We follow the river to the spring. There is a mesmerizing waterfall, the heavenly looking water was falling from the luxurious vegetation growing from the mountain above, no water source could be seen anywhere, the sound is soft like a music, amorosa and adagia. The waterfall draws a half moon in the little lake. We stared at the waterfall and at the land around and we could see a very old cottage at the far end of the border, perhaps it was a checkpoint in which the wolves could rest patrolling, I like the place, I have to work a bit to get it livable, but I choose to live here, my family and my pack are secondary to my role in this  world. From the door of the cottage I can see a fainting path and a force is leading us to climb there till the peak from there we could see a wonderful clearing with a forest of silvery trees, in that moment looking around realization struck me like a thunder, I need to protect this like the giants before me, like the elves inside the silvery forest …. I’m in a territory in which no one is allowed and new self-awareness hit me.
