I sat down next to a concrete wall and eagerly peered out through the silver bars. Three days have passed since they brought me here; well, I've been fed well and everything, but I really missed being outdoors. All I've seen up to this point are the individuals who bring me food, the guards posted in this hellhole, Beta Freda, and a small group of four convicts who were brought in in the late morning.
I can only determine what time it is by the sort of food that is delivered to me. Breakfast consists of toast and fruit, lunch consists of a ham and cheese sandwich, and dinner consists of veggies with a bread and a piece of chicken. I suppose you could claim that I am receiving a reasonable amount of food for a prisoner, and I won't dispute with you, but I believe the main reason is because Beta Freda is still attempting to gain my favor.
He comes every night and tries to talk me into giving it some more thought before I decide. He doesn't realize that the day he transformed my life, I already made that choice.
A powerful female voice that said "psst, over here" jolted me out of my reverie. from my neighbor's cell. Slowly, I turn to my right and stare at a young lady, maybe 23 years old.
Yes, how may I assist you? My tone of speech is sarcastic as I inquire. A female cannot wither away on her own, no matter what these folks wish.
The tone is unnecessary, girl. The others in the cell go over and soon start a discussion while she sneers coldly. I'm here to assist.
I am willing to do just about anything right now, shoot. A little grin makes her way up till her lips, reaching her eyes, they sparkle brilliantly as I say this.
That's great to hear, now pay attention: are you the woman Beta Freda wants to mate with? When she says this, I tremble because I despise that scumbag.
"Why? If you desire him, feel free to stay with me; he is not yours.
"No we don't want him, we want you."
I rise, my legs a bit unsteady. I go in the direction of the silver bars, being cautious not to touch the metal.
And what would you want from me?
"We do not want you per say, but your assistance."
Is your squad of Whatever going to assault this pack? Are you the commander or something? I begin to pacing. They cannot murder members of my pack because I will not be held accountable for their deaths; Beta Freda is the one exception.
"No she is not our leader, stupid lady, Alpha Leo is our leader," a man chuckles as he approaches. I get the impression that icy hands have reached out from the mist and are covering me in a fearful veil. Even the sound of the word sends a chill down my spine and makes me frightened. My body tenses as I follow the path to my heart and slowly sink into the earth, which makes me feel even colder.
The leader of the vernost pack and a serial killer in his own right, Leo is the pack's alpha.
After their previous Alpha's mate was kidn*pped and taken to the United States twenty-three years before, the pack emigrated from Russia to the United States. They moved the pack here in their hunt for her because they felt it would help them get to know the area and send out search missions more easily.
Their territory, which extends from the southern portion of New York to Pennsylvania and the northern half of Ohio, was created by destroying thousands of minor packs in the region. They killed innocent people and wrecked several lives for the sake of one self-centered individual.
A year later, the late Alpha Leo discovered his mate at a secret location in New Jersey. When he arrived, he also discovered their unborn son, who they had conceived together only a few days before to her disappearance. He hurriedly returned them to their new residence, cherishing his newly discovered son and wife. Their story reads like a fairy tale, with the knight in shining armor saving the damsel in need, and then the happy couple moving to a new country with their healthy infant boy.
But even if that were the case, the murderous gang would still be seeking his treasured mate's death for murdering their men years later. One evening, the Luna family's eldest son, Dmitri, and they went for a stroll in the woods outside of the pack settlement. When the attack began, the moon was out and shining overhead. The gang promptly grabbed the small kid and used him as bait for the mother. As her precious kid was being violently handled by their commander, she swiftly dropped to her knees and begged them not to harm him.
The guy made the implication that if the boy's mother took his place, they would not murder him. The mother bobbed her head in agreement without any hesitation. He ordered the youngster to go if he doesn't want to share his mother's fate after loosening his grip on him. Never had he seen such a strong woman so desperate, the child thought as he stared at his mother on the ground, sobbing on her knees and pleading with him to go.
The tiny child hid amid the bushes and fled into the forest, screaming out to his father via the pack line for assistance. He watched his mother as he waited, not knowing what would eventually happen to her. Knowing he couldn't do anything and that his father was at least 15 minutes away, he watched as they beat the woman. The guy who had been holding him earlier took out a silver revolver and pointed it at the mother after they had become weary of the gory mess on the ground for a few minutes.
Knowing what was going to happen, the boy's inner wolf let forth a deadly growl. a snarling growl. As soon as he heard the gunshot echo through the woods, he dashed out to the throng and instantly changed into his actual form, making him the youngest Lycan to ever shift. Not long after his father arrived and they all mourned her together, he assaulted the gathering and killed everyone there.
His father attributed her passing to him. Why didn't you take action sooner! Boy, you could have given it more effort. You turned her in! You are alone to blame; this is a result of you. You are not longer my son. The youngster experienced abuse and was transformed into an unfathomable being.
Not many years after that, he betrayed his father in order to succeed him as Alpha. Not only did he succeed, but he also gained immense power within his species, turning him into the horror that everyone dreaded. He murdered his father, leaving just his younger brother and him as surviving Leos. With his might, Alpha Leo and his brother Beta Leo carried out a bloodbath in the eastern part of the United States.
Once again, the mention of his name made me shiver.
"What brings you here? Why do you need my assistance? I enquired with much confusion and worry.
We came here to negotiate, but your pack turned on us by imprisoning us here. Our pack is coming to remove us at night, therefore we need you to instruct us how to go as quickly and easily as possible. The previous female announces.
"Why? I assumed you were better than us. I take a little grey stone in my hands and bounce it around as I consider their motivations. I said, looking up at their bewildered expressions, "Well?"
"All we want is to get out with as few fatalities and wounds as possible.
I toss the little pebble up again and say, "Fair enough, but," letting it drop to the earth in a cloud of dust. How can I be sure you won't betray me twice? They all exchanged thoughtful glances with one another.
We don't need to murder you since we know you wouldn't aid your pack and that your heart is pure enough to keep you from betraying those who aided you.
Pft, I need assistance, not you, I'm the one who needs it. I go through the cubicle in their direction. What can you do to prevent me from spilling on you?
We'll set you free, the lady murmurs as she leans closer to the bar and flashes her dazzling whites.
"Really? I mean, really, let me go; you won't look for me or direct me in the wrong direction?"
"Why do you believe we have a bad neighborhood?" A senior guy asks me a question while seeming disappointed.
"You're a member of the vernost pack, so why shouldn't I ask you a question?"
How come you should? He asks inquiries, evidently not satisfied with my responses.
"All the rumors and all the tales"
I don't think you are someone who believes in all this rubbish, lady, so yes, all the rumors.
There is too much for it to not be partially factional, thus some of it must be real. I scream.
"Girl, tone down your voice. Before we are discovered!" I hear a quiet scream from the woman in the front seat. "And just so you know, everything you believe to be true has been modified from the actual truth; none of us are monsters and never have been, are, or ever will be. Not the way we live.
"So you will really let me go? " I ask as I take a seat close to the silver bars and tilt my head up to see her gaze. None at all?
"Yes."
"And will you allow me to go right now after I get you all out safely?"
Of course, after that, we won't need you any more.
"You swear?"
On the life.
"Alexa Al'fa outputstit yeye, yelsi budet Ne znayete navernyaka. Alexa You can't be certain that the Alpha will release her.
I become angry when the elderly man starts speaking in Russian because I should be able to understand what he is saying.
Ya uzhe poprospil yego; no one is abusing the other, I'm sure of it. No worries, pal, I have asked him.
I'm sorry, but I don't like the strange tongue.
"I'm sorry, but the world here taught us that we still needed to withhold some things from you. Girl, don't worry. I've told him that we can talk openly in your company.
Why did you respond in Russian then?
I apologize; I usually answer in my native language.
Alexa stands up as she speaks and cautiously reaches her hand through the bars so as not to touch the lethal metal. Girl, do we have a dead body? I consider it as I stare down at the raised hand. If something were to happen, I would always run away quickly since I don't think anybody would want to spend their time on me.
"Only under two circumstances."
And what are such circumstances? She rises up taller, leans her head in my direction, and narrows her eyes in an effort to seem more terrified and superior.
"First, fulfill your commitment." She acknowledges my initial request by nodding. "Secondly, stop referring to me as a girl; you aren't much older than I am. I find it to be extremely humiliating. She waves the others over while grinning at this person. They drew nearer, and the joy in their eyes over the agreement could be seen.
She says while taking my hands in hers. We have an agreement. And then we sign our agreement with a forceful but cordial handshake.
I enquire, "What do we do now?"
The other moves back towards her as she crosses to the opposite side of their cage, sits down, and sighs. She looks boredly at me while running her hand through her unkempt auburn hair and resting her elbows on her knees.
She says two words that give me the willies. "We watch,"
My eyes were closed for many hours as I rested my head against the chilly wall while daydreaming about what the blood moon pack would do. Are they going to destroy the 132-year-old pack, or are they just going to show there and leave? I had so many unanswered questions and was really perplexed.
A powerful, piercing howl that swept across the chilly October night snapped me out of my reverie. I felt fear seep into my system since I was afraid of the unknown and didn't know what to anticipate.
Alexa rises up and says, "There's the signal. Come, we need to be ready." She then nods in my direction. Are you prepared?
"Yeah, I'm as prepared as I've ever been." Thank you, Alexa, for everything, I hesitantly say as I glance at my feet.
Her face lost its grin as a troubled expression took its place.
How did you learn my name? Her tone was firm and cutting.
I overheard you earlier speaking to Verld.
Verld inquisitively questioned, "You know Russians."
"No," I chuckle. But I'm intelligent enough to detect the use of a name, foreign or not. They all seem to be skeptical of anything I've stated as they all stare at me "I truly don't know any Russian; the only words I know are a few odd Portuguese phrases that I picked up from Kepa.
The remarkable Kepa
*How long ago was the expedition? "How is it possible that they don't know what kepa is?
"All of my childhood."
She must have had a very minor role in American history for me to be unaware of her.
"You're important in comparison to Kepa." I breathed quietly as I muttered.
"Kepa must have been important, I haven't had of her!"
"I don't know you, so you must be important," she said. Please don't tell me that my favorite television program from my youth had no impact on US history since it helped kids learn Portuguese.
Stop! Verld yelled. If you don't recall, she said, "Thank you," so if this is important to you, let it go. I nod as I think back to how we first came to this arrangement.
"Okay, we thank you," Alexa begins.
"I go by Anne, but others call me Isabelle."
Well thank you Annabelle for everything, Alexa muffles her chuckle with a faint cough.
There is no question, No grin.
Is that spoken Portuguese? She inquired.
I'd like to think so, but judging by the strange looks Portuguese speakers gave me, I'd have to say "no," I don't believe that's how it's stated. I stomp my heels in response to my embarrassing babble. But that doesn't matter; what matters is our escape."
Yes, they ought to be arriving shortly.
So what are your thoughts? I hurriedly questioned.
"We watch,"
"But you already stated that,"
Yes, but now we'll only wait a little bit less. I huffed in disapproval.
Will you slay the wolf pack?
She looks into my eyes and notices that they are worried "You may not believe that, Annabelle, but my pack and I only hurt those who attempt to harm us. In this regard, we are quite fair. We don't take lives for granted since life is a gift from the goddess and is honored by us.
"Yes, you are correct. That's not how I would think."
I don't believe she truly taught me to agree, at least publicly, after stating it felt horrible, even if she said I wouldn't think her Pak is fair. I'm not sure why I felt that way either; I don't tend to convert rumors into truths, and I just generalized about hundreds of individuals based on a single unfounded report.
My fingers are twisted together as I anxiously bite down on my bottom lip and push my left heel into the wet concrete floor, hoping that the universe would suddenly open up and take me whole. Of course, with my luck, it didn't happen that way.
"Sorry." I speak softly and quietly. I don't like to apologize, but I felt sorry about this. When I say anything, I really mean it.
"You cannot take back what has already been uttered."
Alexa snaps back.
"I know….. Although I regret saying it, I'm not sorry for the way I said it.
I raise my head to see her blue eyes, which are filled with thunder. Her light pink lips drop to form a little opening, framing her grubby face, and she begins to move her hazel hair as if she were about to ask me a question.
A sudden loud groan and the sound of paws and feet scraping across the concrete floor are heard from farther down the corridor. Everyone walks closer to the bars while yet remaining far enough away to be able to look down the dark corridor. When Verld yelled to get ready to escape as two humans and five wolves came barreling down the freezing wall, I leapt in shock because I thought everyone could hear my heartbeat.
The two guys arrived with pliers and used three simple snaps at the silver to easily break open the Russians' cage. The wolves begin to flee back the way they came as they all joyfully fall out of the jail. A guy with sandy blonde hair catches Alexa in his arms and kisses her pale cheeks, nose, forehead, and pale, pink lips with yearning.
All the wolves start to flee when one of the guys barks an order in Russian, leaving me alone.
"Wait!" She comes along, Alexa shouts, pointing at me.
I then hear three gratifying crunches as the silver bars shatter under the immense might of the two warriors as the two guys return with the pliers.
I exhale in greeting, "Thank you.
Yes, let's leave now." The five waiting wolves are at the end of the hallway, one of the males with caramel blonde hair screams.
I run in that way while nodding.
"Going left in the direction of the river bend on the north side of the boundary line is the fastest and safest exit. The jungle just grows thicker as you hear the line, which is the main drawback." My stomach turns as I glance at the face of our assistant training teacher, Lionel, as we make a quick right down the hallway, slipping on the warm blood that has spilled out onto the floor. I force the notion from my head and jog more quickly while tensing my arms. As a result, I advise climbing trees since it is a quicker method.
The previous blonde guy turned and grinned at Alexa as his eyes twinkled with delight.
Is that the reason you brought her?
I'm always ahead of the game, Luke, she says with the same sneer as he does.
You are love, it is who you are. The Russians and I sprint off into the crisp night air as he grabs her, and they run hand in hand as danger lurks around every corner. One could sense their strength emanating from them as well as the ice in their eyes and the grit in their punches. We dash into the woods; nobody has seen us yet, and I want it to stay that way.
Alexa raises her right hand and slowly turns to face the rest of us. The warmth of her breath comes out in gentle white puffs around her fingers. She glances towards the ground to her left, they consist of two girls, both notably Tall and tan; one thin and nimble with black hair and robust and firm with light brown curls, and one extremely tall guy with dark skin. She gestures towards them, holding up her two fingers and swinging her arm around towards the boundary line.
They immediately take off, easily and quickly leaping into the woods. Dark shadows in the moonlight were all you could see as they swiftly began jumping from tree to tree. As the first group headed northeast, Alexa casts a quick check across to the group five to her right, my left, and repeats the identical hand gesture before bursting into motion. She finally turns to gaze at the last group, mine, and then slowly approaches with Luke at her side.
We are splitting off, but we are leading in a triangle and coming in waves. Annabelle, you must stay close to us and follow our example since you are unfamiliar with our technique and we are not explaining it to you either. Once you depart from our company, you will be seen as a rogue and eventually an enemy. You just remain out of the way and leave it to us if we run into difficulties, okay?
"Alexa, I can defend myself."
I saw the glance you heard as we passed your fallen buddy in the hallway, but when it comes to one of your pack mates, you will hesitate.
But I can assist and I can fight.
"Annabelle, just get out of the way." Verld groans next to me and walks over to Alexa.
Is my berem nizinu da? Yes, we choose the low ground. Verld queries.
"Da." She answers. In any case, you couldn't accept the rough trees since they may potentially leave a little spot on your skin. She tenderly affectionately touches his shoulder. Come, we have to go right now.
She runs toward the north, with Luke once again at her side. We swiftly adjust. Paws repeatedly slaps the ground while playing a music that is impossible to forget.
