Chapter Eleven

A sigh escaped my lips as I realized I had lost my horse, resigning myself to the prospect of traversing the path on foot. However, to my surprise, two sets of hands beckoned me to join them on their steeds. Helios and Zephyr, the very individuals with whom I had been locked in rivalry, offered me a place among them. My heart skipped a beat, and a gulp lodged itself in my throat. "Come with me," Zephyr muttered, and against my better judgment, I decided to stick close to Marcello. "Why me, if you already have those two?" Marcello inquired, a hint of skepticism in his voice. "To prevent further conflict between them," I reasoned, glancing behind us. There, I spotted Hestia and her child, Emery, seated in a carriage laden with an abundance of food and drink, drawn by two horses. I sighed, realizing the predicament. "Can your horse carry both of us?" I asked Marcello. "It can carry even more than that!" he exclaimed, a wide smile gracing his face. I dismounted from my position, calling out to Hestia. "Let's switch places! It appears uncomfortable for a mother and her child," I suggested, the words barely escaping my lips. She didn't utter a response but moved behind Marcello, who glanced at me with confusion. "I'll make you regret it if you refuse," I silently mouthed, settling myself into the carriage. I let out a sigh of relief, and with that, we embarked on our journey, hours stretching before us until we decided it was time to set up camp. As the sun dipped below the horizon, signaling the arrival of dusk, we gathered to partake in a simple meal of porridge, the ingredients sourced from the castle's borders. Whispers circulated among the group, indicating that the lake lay in close proximity. My attention was then drawn to Helios, who seemed to be striding away. Curiosity gnawed at me, urging me to follow him, and so I did, venturing after him through the dense forest. Amidst the winding path, he vanished from my sight. Yet, as fortune would have it, I stumbled upon a hidden cave adorned with a tapestry of awe-inspiring leaves and flowers. I marveled at the ethereal beauty and could not resist the urge to venture inside. "Helios?" I called out, my voice echoing softly through the cavernous space. "Where are you?" I inquired, proceeding further into the enchanting depths. Finally, I caught sight of him. He stood near a pristine lake, washing his hands in the crystal-clear waters. "I was searching for you," I admitted, and his expression brightened upon seeing me. "What brings you here?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. "I simply sought solace in the fresh air, a respite for my troubled mind," he replied, shedding his armor and garments, leaving only his pants. He waded into the shimmering waters, extending his hands. "I had heard that this overflowing lake possesses a breathtaking allure beneath its surface," he remarked, and I couldn't help but sigh, shedding my armor but keeping my clothes intact. As my foot made contact with the water, a refreshing chill coursed through me. Suddenly, Helios grasped my hand and pulled me into the lake alongside him. Now, we stood immersed in the tranquil waters, our gazes locked. His ruby-red eyes met mine, and in that moment, everything else faded away. I could feel the rhythm of his breath and the beat of his heart. What was this bewildering sensation? I found myself holding his strong, masculine hands, my heart racing. His gaze intensified, and then, in an act of irresistible impulse, he pressed his lips against mine, and I closed my eyes, surrendering to the tender caress. His lips were velvety soft, and despite the internal conflict arising within me, the sensation felt undeniably euphoric. His tongue danced with mine. It tasted like vanilla. But what was I doing? Was I merely playing a role, disguising myself as a knight and a man? Nonetheless, the intoxicating allure of the moment consumed me. Suddenly, a force tugged me from the depths of the lake, jolting me back to reality. My eyes widened as I realized it was all a trap, a web of deceit skillfully spun. As I fell into the depths of the dream, memories intertwined with emotions, a bittersweet journey through the fragments of my past. I found myself standing by a serene lake, its surface reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. And there, amidst the tranquil beauty, stood my father, his presence both comforting and haunting. "What is love to you?" his voice resonated, carrying echoes of a time long gone. It was the day my mother had perished, a casualty of the bitter feud between our families. I looked up at my father, my innocent eyes searching for answers. "Love is family," I replied with a smile, recalling the warmth of my mother's embrace and the joy we shared before tragedy struck. His touch on my cheeks was gentle, his hug a fleeting embrace of solace. But his words, laced with sorrow and caution, carried a weight that I would carry with me for years to come. "Love will make you want to protect fiercely, to defend with every fiber of your being," he whispered, his voice tinged with a hint of resignation. "But love can also ignite a burning desire for vengeance, a thirst to eliminate anyone who dares harm those you hold dear. And love, my child, can be a painful desire that can consume your very soul. Don't ever fall in Love,” As his words settled in my heart, a sudden jolt of pain tore through my body, ripping through the idyllic scene. A searing sensation pierced my stomach, shattering the tranquility of the dream. Darkness encroached upon the edges of my vision, threatening to engulf me. Is this my end? The question hung heavy in the air, and for a brief moment, fear gripped my heart. But then, a surge of determination coursed through my veins, fueled by the memories of love, loss, and the resilience that had shaped me. With a defiant spirit, I summoned the strength to fight against the encroaching darkness. I refused to let the pain define me, to let the echoes of tragedy silence my will. As I struggled to emerge from the depths of the dream, a flicker of hope illuminated my path, guiding me back to the realm of wakefulness. Is this really my end?
