8 CECILE “Mom, I’m about to run to the library to see if I can find something to read this weekend. Can I call you later?” I stopped at the door, not wanting to be on the phone when I entered the silent space. “Sure, honey. I’ll be around. Give me a call later. Bye now.” With the long call over, I put my cell into the back pocket of my jeans, and then went in to see what I could find to entertain myself for the long holiday weekend. Monday was Columbus Day, so we had three days off instead of only two. A long book would be needed, so my search began.
