In the bathroom of his sixth-floor apartment, Ye Sha looked rather vexed at himself in the mirror.
Having evaded the pursuit of a goblin, he found himself transformed into something even more terrifying - a werewolf. He wasn't sure if this counted as another kind of oddity:
On the brighter side though, becoming a werewolf had given him some level of self-defense against these weird occurrences!
Ye Sha was inherently optimistic and easily content, thus comforting himself. It was a considerable achievement that he managed to maintain sanity after a gory hunt and then a transformation into a monster.
"Can I change back?"
While the werewolf body afforded him immense strength and powerful regenerative abilities (his goblin-bitten arm was healed in no time), if he couldn't turn back to a human form, he would be forced to abandon city life and hide deep into the mountains. After all, he didn't want to hurt anyone.
"Change back, change back!"
Ye Sha whispered furiously to himself, trying to will reality to his desires. But his body held no response, and in the mirror, a terrifying werewolf still gazed back at him.
Given it was deep night, and all was quiet, the shuddering chase had gone unnoticed.
Dragging the weight of his wolf body, Ye Sha slumped gloomily onto his couch, which sunk beneath him, signaling to his increased mass in a werewolf's frame.
"I don't care anymore, I need to sleep first, I'm too tired!"
Although Ye Sha's werewolf body was brimming with power, his mind was exhausted, having been stretched between extreme tension and relaxation.
He found a comfortable position, leaned back into the couch, and closed his eyes...
When the sun was well up, and the day was brightly lit, it seemed like all the terror of the previous night had been dismissed to oblivion. Ye Sha woke up in a daze, immediately feeling relieved when he realized that he had changed back into his human form.
Looking down at his own muscular palm, he leaped for joy from the couch. His body had reverted back to normal, with not a trace of injury left.
Bam!
The low-quality couch, which had endured the immense weight of the werewolf the entire night before, finally gave way. The added jump from the 150-pound Ye Sha was the last straw, and it collapsed, ending its miserably burdened existence.
Ye Sha was unfazed and darted back into the bathroom, inspecting his body in the mirror.
"If I can turn back into a human, can I turn back into a werewolf?"
Sure enough, Ye Sha's scheming mind was at work. But it was understandable. He needed every possible lifeline in this world turned upside down.
Just as the thought arose in his mind, Ye Sha felt his body starting to change. His form began to enlarge and bulge, his hair began to grow, puncturing his already tattered clothing. His hands turned into wolf claws, and his decently handsome face distorted to a terrifying countenance, morphing back into the wolf beast.
Following the stretching of his transformed body, Ye Sha could sense the incredible physique and explosive potential of his werewolf body. Being a fitness and combat trainer, he knew the techniques of exerting strength, and this allowed him to quickly comprehend and control this uncalled-for ability!
With another thought, Ye Sha became a human again. His clothing, enduring transformations from the night before and just now, were already in ruins. His own underwear was stretched to the point of tearing and now hung in pieces on his body.
Ye Sha managed a weary smile, stripped off his remaining scraps of clothing, opened the bathroom door and stepped in to wash away any dirt from himself.
"I think the key to the transformation is the level of my mental or energy state. I was too tired to change back last night!"
Sitting in front of his computer, Ye Sha embarked on analyzing his predicament. He needed to decode his own trump card and stay on top of any strange occurrences that may arise.
"The moonlight must be the activation code for my transformation. Once it's inputted, I have the ability to switch forms at will!"
Typing 'werewolf' into a particular website, Ye Sha began to browse, hoping to gain additional information on these mysterious creatures.
The website had been established post the appearance of oddities and was accessed globally. It primarily recorded the appearance of peculiar occurrences and was intended as a cautionary tool for humanity.
To be fair, only three months since the peculiarities appeared, not all places had been affected yet.
Ye Sha's city, Jiangyang, had only a few instances of peculiar encounters, barely a quarter compared to the neighboring city Jiangyin. The latter was a human catastrophe, under military jurisdiction and sealed from entry or exit.
The oddities' website showed no search results, indicating that werewolves hadn't yet appeared within human perception.
Ye Sha pondered and began to navigate to other peculiarities' specific information. He was quite a daring person, and now with his ace card, he was more confident than ever. As he viewed records of odd occurrences and munched on instant noodles, the grisly and terrifying images from oddities didn't deter his appetite.
"Ring, ring, ring!"
His mobile phone rang, and only then did Ye Sha remember his work commitment. After all, life in Jiangyang was more or less normal, meaning he needed to continue working! Aren't capitalists just peculiarities amongst humanity!
"Hello, boss?"
Ye Sha answered the phone, sounding somewhat embarrassed. While it was true he had encountered oddities, it wasn't right for him to abscond without notice.
"Ye Sha, feeling good with success? You've been awarded the fitness sales champion and you decide to skip work?"
A joking voice, delicate and captivating, flowed from the other end, sending a tingling sensation through him. This was his employer, Liu Yun Ning, a 27-year-old beautifully charming and curvaceous lady.
"No… I'm not feeling too well, took the morning off. Will get to work this afternoon!"
"Well, all is forgiven then, remember to check in when you come this afternoon!"
