The Last Eclipse
Darkness swallowed the battlefield.
A storm of black energy erupted from the Shadow King's body, covering the sky and blotting out the moon. The armies below struggled to see through the swirling shadows as thunder shook the earth.
Only two lights pierced the darkness.
Kael's golden Alpha aura.
And Lyra's silver-and-shadow radiance.
They stood shoulder to shoulder.
For the first time since destiny had bound them together, they fought as one.
The Shadow King smiled coldly.
"So... you've accepted your fate."
Lyra lifted her staff.
"I've accepted who I am."
"And that's something you'll never take from me."
With a furious roar, the Shadow King attacked.
His sword struck like lightning.
Kael blocked the first blow, the force pushing him backward across the shattered ground.
Before the Shadow King could strike again, Lyra spun her staff, releasing a wave of brilliant silver light.
The blast forced the Shadow King several steps back.
He laughed.
"Excellent!"
"This is the battle I've waited centuries for."
Across the battlefield, Malrik watched silently.
His sword lay on the ground where Lyra had disarmed him.
For the first time in his life, doubt filled his heart.
He remembered how she had spared him.
She could have ended his life.
Instead, she had shown mercy.
Varek noticed his hesitation.
"My prince!"
"What are you doing?"
Malrik didn't answer.
Varek drew his blade.
"The Shadow King commands us to attack!"
Still, Malrik remained motionless.
Meanwhile, Lucien and Damon led the united armies against the remaining Shadow Soldiers.
"Hold the line!" Damon shouted.
The warriors fought with renewed courage as Lyra's light spread across the battlefield.
Captain Rylan protected the younger soldiers, refusing to let another family suffer as his had.
Alpha Selene rallied the western packs, driving the enemy back toward Black Hollow Mountain.
For the first time, the Shadow Army began to retreat.
The Shadow King roared with anger.
He raised both hands toward the sky.
Black lightning crashed down around him.
The ground split open.
From the cracks emerged enormous creatures made entirely of living darkness.
Shadow Titans.
Each one towered over the battlefield.
The united army stared in horror.
"There are five of them!" Damon shouted.
Lucien's expression darkened.
"They're ancient guardians corrupted by forbidden magic."
The first titan charged toward the army.
Before it could reach them, Kael shifted into his massive black wolf.
With a thunderous leap, he slammed into the creature's chest.
The impact shook the valley.
"Go!" Kael called to Lyra.
"I'll hold them back!"
Lyra hesitated.
"I won't leave you!"
"You have to stop the Shadow King!"
She understood.
Without another word, she sprinted toward the mountain where the Shadow King now stood alone.
The climb was steep.
Dark energy poured from the broken seal beneath the mountain.
Every step felt heavier than the last.
At the summit, the Shadow King waited beside the shattered prison.
Behind him floated the stolen Moonstone, now corrupted by darkness.
"You've come alone," he said.
Lyra shook her head.
"I'm not alone."
She touched the pendant her mother had left her.
"I carry everyone who believed in me."
The Shadow King smiled.
"Then let us finish this."
Their final duel began.
Silver and black energy collided again and again.
The mountain trembled beneath their power.
The Shadow King struck with overwhelming force, but Lyra no longer fought with fear or anger.
She fought with hope.
Every lesson from Seraphina...
Every sacrifice her parents had made...
Every act of kindness shown by her friends...
Strengthened her resolve.
The Heart Crystal glowed brighter than ever.
Suddenly, the Shadow King launched a devastating blast of darkness.
Lyra raised her staff.
The Heart Crystal, the Shadow Mark, and the Moonstone all reacted at once.
A brilliant pillar of silver light burst into the heavens.
The corrupted Moonstone broke free from the Shadow King's control and floated toward Lyra.
Its dark corruption faded.
The Moonstone had been purified.
The Shadow King staggered backward in disbelief.
"No..."
"This cannot be!"
Just then, Kael reached the summit, bruised and exhausted but still standing.
He walked beside Lyra.
Together, they held the restored Moonstone and the Heart Crystal.
The two relics shone with dazzling light.
Far below, the armies looked up as the storm above Black Hollow Mountain began to clear.
Lucien smiled.
"They're doing it."
But before the light could seal the darkness completely, a deep c***k echoed beneath the mountain.
The ground split apart.
An ancient stone door slowly opened.
A terrifying roar erupted from the abyss below.
Seraphina's face turned pale.
"No..."
"The Abyss Gate..."
Lucien looked at her in alarm.
"What is it?"
She whispered the words no one wanted to hear.
"The Shadow King wasn't the final evil."
"He was only its keeper."
From the darkness beneath the mountain, two enormous crimson eyes slowly opened.
A voice older than the kingdoms themselves echoed across the world.
"At last... I am awake."
Lyra tightened her grip on her staff.
Kael stepped closer beside her.
The greatest battle was still ahead.
