Dark obsessions: chapter 18

897 Words
The Battle of Black Hollow The sky turned blood red. A wave of dark energy spread across the werewolf kingdoms as the Shadow King stepped out of the ruins of his ancient prison. His black armor shimmered like obsidian, and his crimson eyes glowed with terrifying power. Behind him stood Malrik, Varek, and an army of thousands of Shadow Wolves. The final war had begun. In Moonhaven, the alarm bells rang continuously. Warriors hurried into formation while the united Alphas gathered around Kael. A scout rushed into the council hall, breathing heavily. "My Alpha!" Kael turned. "The Shadow King is marching toward Black Hollow Pass." Lucien spread a map across the table. "If he crosses the pass, every kingdom will be open to attack." Kael looked around the room. "Then we make our stand there." Every Alpha nodded in agreement. No one suggested retreat. There was nowhere left to run. By sunrise, the united werewolf army stood outside Black Hollow Pass. Thousands of warriors stretched across the valley. The banners of Blackthorn, Silver Fang, Moonhaven, and dozens of other packs fluttered in the wind. Lyra stood beside Kael at the front of the army. She looked across the battlefield. "So many lives..." Kael gently squeezed her hand. "They're here because they believe in you." She smiled nervously. "I hope I don't disappoint them." "You won't." A deep horn echoed across the valley. The Shadow Army appeared. An endless sea of black-armored soldiers marched toward them. Massive shadow wolves prowled between the ranks. Dark birds circled overhead. At the center rode the Shadow King on an enormous black wolf with glowing crimson eyes. He stopped only a short distance away. "So..." His voice echoed across the valley. "The kingdoms have united." His gaze settled on Lyra. "Just as I expected." Lyra stepped forward. "This ends today." The Shadow King laughed. "It has only just begun." Without another word, he raised his sword. "Attack." The earth shook as both armies charged. The clash was deafening. Steel met steel. Wolves crashed into shadow beasts. Magic lit the battlefield in flashes of silver and black. Kael fought like a storm, cutting through enemy soldiers as he protected the warriors around him. Damon led the eastern flank, refusing to let the Shadow Army surround them. Captain Rylan, fully recovered, fought beside Moonhaven's guardians, determined to repay the trust they had shown him. Meanwhile, Lucien battled Varek once again. "You've ruined everything," Varek growled. Lucien blocked his strike. "No." "You did." The two warriors exchanged powerful blows, neither willing to give an inch. In the center of the battlefield, Lyra faced Malrik. He smiled confidently. "You've grown stronger." "So have you," Lyra replied. Malrik drew his black sword. "But strength alone won't save your people." He attacked. Lyra blocked with her silver staff, sparks flying as their weapons collided. The Heart Crystal hanging around her neck glowed brightly. She remembered the Guardian's words. "The greatest power comes from balance." Instead of fighting with anger, she focused on protecting those behind her. Silver light spread from her staff, pushing Malrik backward. He frowned. "You've learned faster than I expected." He suddenly created three shadow copies of himself. Each attacked from a different direction. Lyra closed her eyes for a single heartbeat. She listened. Not with her ears— But with the bond connecting her to the Moon Goddess. When she opened her eyes again, she saw the real Malrik. She spun her staff. A burst of Shadow Light shattered the illusions. Malrik staggered. Before he could recover, Lyra struck his sword from his hand. The weapon landed several feet away. Malrik stared at her in disbelief. "I..." "I lost?" Lyra pointed her staff toward him. "This fight is over." For a moment, she considered striking the final blow. Instead, she lowered her weapon. "I'm not becoming what your father wants me to be." Malrik looked at her silently. No one had ever shown him mercy. For the first time, doubt crossed his face. Suddenly, a terrifying roar echoed across the battlefield. Everyone looked toward the center. Kael had reached the Shadow King. Their swords collided with enough force to c***k the ground beneath them. The Shadow King smiled. "So you are the Alpha King." Kael raised his sword. "I'll stop you." The Shadow King laughed. "You are welcome to try." A blast of dark energy exploded from his body. Kael was thrown backward, crashing into a massive boulder. "Kael!" Lyra cried. She ran toward him, but the Shadow King stepped into her path. At last... They stood face to face. The Shadow King studied her carefully. "You look just like your mother." Lyra's grip tightened on her staff. "You murdered her." "I did." "And she died protecting you." Rage flared inside Lyra, but she forced herself to remain calm. "I won't let anyone else die today." The Shadow King smiled. "We shall see." He raised his hand. Darkness gathered around him like a living storm. The sky itself seemed to split apart. Lucien looked on in horror. "No..." "He's using forbidden magic." The Shadow King pointed directly at Lyra. "Come, Shadow Queen." "Show me whether your light..." "...can survive my darkness." The battlefield fell silent as the two ancient bloodlines prepared to clash. The fate of the werewolf world would be decided in the battle that was about to begin. End of Chapter Eighteen
