Secret trail today? Orla’s suggestion is a welcome one for our after-work family run. We love the tight switchbacks and gentle inclines on the little-used mountain bike trail in Highland Park in Pittsburgh’s East End. The trail winds its way through so many areas of the park that people never see. My family, of course, appreciates the engineering of the trail and the way urban infrastructure like wiring and piping wind their way through the park tucked out of view to all but the most adventurous runners. I send a few thumbs up emojis, hoping to convey my enthusiasm for Orla’s idea. And then I remember I’m on a site visit with Maddie. If I take her to the office afterward I’ll miss the group outing.
