CHAPTER NINE.
The city seemed to come alive as the sun disappeared behind the horizon. Every road leading to the grand event center was beautifully decorated with glowing fairy lights that shimmered like tiny stars. The magnificent building stood proudly, wrapped in golden and silver lights that sparkled from every angle, making it look like a palace prepared for royalty, while soft instrumental music floated through the air, welcoming every guest with elegance.
As guests stepped onto the red carpet, cameras flashed continuously, capturing every dazzling moment.
Ladies arrived in breathtaking gowns made of satin, silk, velvet, and glittering sequins. Some wore elegant floor-length dresses decorated with sparkling crystals that reflected the lights beautifully, while others appeared in fashionable mermaid gowns that hugged their figures perfectly. Their jewelry sparkled with every movement, diamond necklaces, glittering earrings, delicate bracelets, and shining rings completed their glamorous appearance. Their makeup was flawless, with glowing skin, perfectly blended eyeshadow, long eyelashes, glossy lips, and neatly shaped eyebrows that highlighted their natural beauty. Their hairstyles varied from graceful curls flowing over their shoulders to elegant buns decorated with sparkling hairpins and tiny pearls.
The men were equally impressive. They wore perfectly tailored tuxedos in black, navy blue, emerald green, and burgundy. Crisp white shirts, polished leather shoes, designer watches, and neatly arranged bow ties gave them a refined and confident appearance.
Inside the hall, everything glittered magnificently. Crystal chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, scattering thousands of tiny reflections across the room. The tables were covered with spotless white cloths decorated with golden runners, fresh roses, scented candles, and sparkling glass centerpieces. Every chair was beautifully wrapped with silky ribbons, while the dance floor shone brightly beneath colorful moving lights.
It was more than just a party, it was a celebration of elegance, joy, friendship, and unforgettable memories. Every sparkling light, every beautiful outfit, every touch of makeup, every smile, every dance, and every burst of laughter blended together to create a magical evening that would remain in the hearts of everyone who attended for years to come.
************”
The moment Rita and Juhanah stepped into the hall, every eye turned in admiration. They were dressed in stunning silver gowns that shone beautifully beneath the sparkling lights, making them look like stars. Their dresses were elegantly designed with delicate sequins that reflected every beam of light, adding a touch of glamour to their appearance.
Their makeup was flawless, with radiant skin, neatly shaped eyebrows, soft glittering eyeshadow, long eyelashes, and glossy nude lips that enhanced their natural beauty. Their hair was perfectly styled in elegant, flowing curls that rested gracefully on their shoulders, giving them a graceful and sophisticated look.
They wore sparkling diamond earrings, matching necklaces, elegant bracelets, and silver heels that complemented their gowns perfectly. Each carried a small silver clutch, adding the final touch of elegance.
************
“Hi Gorgeous……….”
“Hi……” she muttered.
“My name is Teo…” he introduced himself, extending his hand.
"I'm Juhanah"
They shook hands warmly before continuing their conversation. Daniel's eyes lingered on her for a brief moment, and he smiled again.
"I hope you don't mind me saying this," he began, "but you look absolutely stunning tonight. That silver dress suits you perfectly, and your smile lights up the room. You have a graceful elegance that's hard to ignore."
A blush spread across Juhanah's cheeks. "Thanks……”
"You deserve every compliment," Teo replied. "I've noticed you since you arrived….”
They laughed together as their conversation flowed naturally, talking about the party, music, and their shared interests.
Not far away sat Rita.
Rita had admired Teo for a long time. He was the person she secretly hoped would one day notice her. She had imagined countless conversations with him, but she had never found the courage to approach him.
Now, she watched as he smiled so effortlessly at Juhanah.
Her smile slowly disappeared.
She folded her arms tightly across her chest, forcing herself to look away, but her eyes kept returning to them. Every laugh they shared felt like a reminder that the attention she had long wished for was being given to someone else.
A wave of jealousy settled quietly in her heart. She tried to hide it behind a calm expression, but disappointment lingered in her eyes. Deep down, she wished she were the one standing beside Teo, sharing that conversation.
As the music continued and the lights sparkled around the hall, Juhanah remained unaware of the silent emotions growing within her friend. The evening that had begun with joy had also become the beginning of a quiet conflict.
**********
The once cheerful conversation between the two friends had disappeared. The beautiful memories of the party still lingered in the air, but for one of them, they had already become painful memories.
Rita tightened her grip on the steering wheel as she drove. A faint smile remained on her face, carefully hiding the storm raging inside her heart. Every now and then, she glanced at her friend, who sat happily beside her, completely unaware of the emotions she was trying so hard to conceal. She replayed the scene from the party over and over in her mind.
"Thank you so much for today," Juhanah said with a bright smile, breaking the silence. "I really enjoyed myself."
"Me too," she replied softly, forcing a smile that looked genuine enough to fool anyone.
Her friend laughed shyly. "Thank you. Guess what?"
"What?" she asked, pretending not to care.
"He actually got my number."
She turned her face slightly toward the window so her friend wouldn't notice the sudden change in her expression.
"Really?" she asked calmly.
"Yes," her friend replied, unable to hide her excitement. "He said he'd call me soon. I honestly didn't expect that to happen."
"That's... nice," she answered, keeping her voice steady.
Inside, however, every word felt like another crack in her heart.
A few minutes later, they arrived at juhanah's house. She gently parked the car in front of the gate.
"We're here," she said.
Juhanah smiled warmly, picked her handbag, and turned to her.
"Thank you for today…..”
She nodded with another carefully rehearsed smile.
"It's nothing. Get inside safely."
Before stepping out, her friend leaned closer.
"And when he calls, you'll be the first person I'll tell…..” Juhanah said with a smile.
Those words pierced even deeper, but she simply chuckled.
***********
As Juhanah got home, her heart was bound for joy.
Every conversation, every memory, gushed into her mind over and over again.
“Seems I'm falling in love already…..” she thought.
Suddenly, a call came through, she picked her phone, on seeing Renfred on the screen, she refused to answer, the phone rang about three times and then stopped ringing.
Deep down, she was waiting for someone else to call, Someone she can't get off her mind for a second.
She waited patiently for hours.
After some hours, her phone vibrated, and a message popped up.
“Ill call you now”
On seeing the message, it was an unsaved contact.
“Who might this be?”. She thought.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
“Hello….”she muttered.
“I know you're wondering who this is, isn't it?”
“Yes….” She replied warmly.
“It's Teo……”
On hearing his name, she blushed.
“Ohhhh…….”
At that point, she lost her breath.
Her heart began to beat so fast.
“Hello????”
“I'm speechless, I don't know what to say……’’
“Hope you're home?”
“Of course, to be honest, I can't get you off my mind right now, not even ever…..”
“Maybe, I should propose to you on the phone…” He said jokingly.
Juhanah laughed.
“Of course, I don't wanna wait any longer…..I just want to be yours forever.”
“I want that too, I love you Juhanah, the moment I saw you, a part of me walked out of my body and wrapped itself around you….”
To Juhanah, for the first time in a long time she met a man that made her heart stay.
They spoke for hours.
