Gerald chuckled when he saw Olivia still chasing him and getting closer, then he pushed Selena's shoulder to force her into the car. Again the girl couldn't fight back even if she wanted to. Gerald followed her into the car and left the campus, her eyes focused on the road, the girl beside her was silent with a look of confusion.
"Sorry about what happened this morning!"
Gerald's voice cracked the silence that had surrounded them in the car. Selena glanced at him briefly, to be honest she was still very upset about what happened to her earlier, but she was used to controlling her emotions. Meanwhile, Gerald, on the other hand, was always controlled by his emotions until he kissed an unknown girl just to get back at his girlfriend.
Gerald felt irritated when Selena dared to look at him, it was undeniable that her behavior earlier was indeed impudent.
"May I know your name?" asked Gerald.
The girl with blue eyes as bright as the sky blinked several times making beautiful movements with her lashes, very charming even though she was framed by old glasses.
"My name is Selena." he said.
"What? I can't hear please say it louder."
"Selena!" this time she answered at a fairly high volume.
"Don't be too loud either, you think I'm deaf?" Gerald sneered in a high tone.
Selena was silent, a moment later Gerald regretted snapping at her.
"I'll change your bike, and..." Gerald looked down at Selena's knee, there was a graze that was still red.
"You hurt?"
"What? No, it's okay!" Selena covered her wound with the skirt she was wearing. Her knee was scratched by the asphalt when she fell from the bicycle and she had not had time to treat it, even since earlier Selena had been ignoring the pain.
"Your wound must be treated immediately, otherwise it can become infected!" said Gerald, he turned around, and immediately headed to the pharmacy, it would be outrageous if Gerald took the small wound to the doctor but even more outrageous if he underestimated the wound he made.
"No need sir, I'm fine." said Selena. She thought Gerald didn't need to do anything for her except for the bike, Selena didn't want anything to do with him.
"Listen! If I hurt other people my life will suffer even more, I'm fed up and don't add to my burden anymore," Gerald said half panicked, even though he was cold and arrogant but the man believed in the theory of natural law. His life path was steep, Gerald had enough trouble, he didn't want Selena to hold a grudge or cursed him in his heart and then it became a disaster in his life.
"Have I ever been a burden in your life before?" Selena frowned, wanting to correct Gerald's words a little.
"That's not what I mean!"
"Drop me here!" Selena asked suddenly, the truth was that Gerald was the source of the various problems and troubles he was facing right now, then why did the man say that Selena was adding to his life's burdens? This is so unfair, Selena thought.
"Are you mad? You misunderstood I mean I already have a lot--"
Gerald's sentence was cut off when Selena interrupted him, and fired back.
"Having a lot of burden and it's not because of me, it's your own fault, the burden here is you! You have run into me and not helped me, destroyed my bicycle, cracked my glasses, injured my leg, and had trouble finding a ride to go to college, then you--" Selena paused and took a deep breath, she wasn't used to talking too much and mentioning Gerald's list of faults was enough to suffocate her.
"You kissed me without permission, no one knows what I will face tomorrow, I will definitely be made fun of on campus or even attacked by Olivia and her friends," he continued angrily.
"That won't happen, I will teach them a lesson." said Gerald.
"Listen sir, if you just want to repay your betrayal girlfriend, don't involve me, I beg you to let me down here!"
Gerald didn't heed Selena's words, as soon as he arrived at the pharmacy he immediately parked his car and then got out of the car. Selena was still sitting besides she didn't understand Gerald's actions, she also couldn't open the car door, it was embarrassing but how else she had never been in a luxury car like that in her entire life, and this was the first time, unfortunately, with the wrong person.
Gerald opened the door for Selena "Can you walk?"
Selena nodded, then she got up and limped away, because she couldn't stand seeing Selena in pain and her movements were very slow. Gerald took Selena into his arms.
"Uh, what are you doing?" Selena jumped, and spontaneously wrapped her arms around Gerald's neck.
Gerald sat him down on a chair in front of the pharmacy.
"Bring me the first aid kit!" Gerald shouted, the pharmacy guard immediately obeyed his orders.
Gerald squatted down, saw Selena's white skin flushed, he took off Selena's shoes and put those long legs on her thighs.
"Ah, no need, I can do it myself."
Selena felt uncomfortable when Gerald did it, it felt very impolite if men of Gerald's class positioned themselves parallel to her feet, plus Selena was also embarrassed because she was wearing a short skirt.
While treating the wound Selena Gerald asked, "Do you often get bad treatment from Olivia?"
Selena was initially confused about having to answer whether she was afraid of saying the wrong thing because Gerald was Olivia's boyfriend, "Yes, that's nothing new for me." Selena finally said.
"You have to be more firm, don't want to be trampled on, you have pride, keep it up!" Gerald was a little angry.
"What can I do? I'm just a poor girl, Olivia comes from a respected and influential family. I could have gotten into bigger trouble if I dared to fight her," said Selena.
"Poor?" Gerald repeated the word questioningly, but a second later an idea-filled smile appeared on his face.
"Why are you smiling? Are you happy to know my fate?" Selena was irritated by the look on Gerald's face, not mocking but that shouldn't be the right reaction to hear someone is poor. Are all rich people like that?
"It's done! I'm smiling not because you're poor but because I'm glad to meet you" Gerald replied casually, after Selena's wound was perfectly bandaged he put the girl's shoes on. Selena was flabbergasted but in the end she just gave up, she understood that maybe Gerald felt guilty about this morning's incident.
"But unfortunately, I'm not happy to meet you!" Selena replied.
"Soon you will be happy, okay I'll take you home, do you want to be carried or can you walk alone?" Somehow Gerald's voice sounded sweeter than before, Selena suspected that Gerald had hidden intentions.
"Seriously you're going to take me home?" Selena made sure.
"Of course, where should I take you?"
"Maybe you will take me to another place like a hotel, because you are suspicious and look like a perverted man," said Selena, even though it sounded impolite but she had to stay alert.
"Hahahaha!" Gerald laughed at that.
"Selena, you're right, I'm a pervert, but I'm also picky, there's no way I'm interested in you. A girl like you, I just pick her up on the street," said Gerald lightly, while continuing to laugh as if he heard a joke.
"You is very arrogant, even though you are more sad than being handsome, rich and powerful but being cheated on by your girlfriend, she prefers a spoiled man with a lot of style than you!" Selena said softly, not mocking or sarcastic but able to slap Gerald.
"And you are the person who benefits the most from getting the first kiss from a handsome, rich, and powerful man," said Gerald.
Selena gasped, her cheeks suddenly flushed at the memory. How did Gerald know that it was her first kiss? She should have gotten it from the man she loved someday, but as time went by and the ridicule she received, Selena thought that no man would ever fall in love with her, and she had forgotten about that long ago. Selena was never interested in romance again.
She has lost all the romance novels on her bookshelf, only business and history books, the rest are probably fantasy stories and comics. She really didn't expect that his first kiss would be with Gerald D.Franklin. Peek a boo with a rich man, is that possible?
"Are you the son of Mr. Jordan Franklin?" Selena asked distractedly, at first Selena didn't know but she heard the whispers of several students on campus during the unexpected incident.
"In many ways I am not his son, but if you ask about my birth of course it involves him."
When Selena was digesting Gerald's sentence, the man carried her without warning, even though Selena's wound was not that bad it just hurt when she moved it, she was still able to walk on her own, but strangely she couldn't resist Gerald's actions.
When the man's emerald, arrow-sharp gaze met Selena's crystal-clear azure eyes, there was a twinge that made the two connect for a moment. They stared at each other for a long time without realizing it. When the sound of thunder boomed both of them blinked and came back to their senses.
"Are you afraid of lightning?" Gerald asked seeing Selena who immediately hugged him tightly when she heard the thunder.
"I-im--sorry I accidentally sir, of course I'm afraid of being struck and the voice always manages to surprise me." Selena lifted her face which had previously sunk into Gerald's chest.
"Wait a minute, I just realized you've been calling me Sir?Do I look that old?" It seemed that Gerald was not happy with the call.
"I'm just trying to be polite," said Selena.
"No need to be too formal, I prefer it when a girl calls my name, especially when she's lying powerless under my control." Gerald grinned meaningfully.
"You are crazy!"
Selena wasn't that naive, she understood what Gerald meant. Selena's goosebumps when she saw Gerald's grin, even though Gerald said that if he wasn't interested in Selena, still as a girl she had to be on guard.
Gerald took him into the car, then they continued on their way, Selena directing Gerald the way to his house. They arrived at a modest house with Poem trees growing in the yard. Not so bad, still worth living for, thought Gerald.
"Is this your house?"
"That's right, why? Do you want to laugh at a poor people's house?" Selena emphasized her last word.
"I just want to remember"
Selena frowned "for what?"
"That's my business," Gerald replied curtly.
When they were out on the front porch, Selena knocked on the door and called out to her mother, while Gerald stood tall behind her. Not long after a middle-aged woman wearing a sweater and scarf came out, she opened the door and was surprised to see her daughter.
"Selena, why are you home? Is there a problem, sweetheart?" Asked her mother, Selena should still be on campus and take her classes.
