Chapter Thirty-Three
Celine in a glimpse was already on her bed after she used her magic to escape from Mathew’s room.
“That girl again,” she whispered to herself.
‘She always brings trouble to me whenever I’m beside my master,’ she thought and sigh.
Her gaze automatically landed on the door when she heard a knock.
“Celine?” she heard Veronica call.
She glance at herself still wearing the ruined gown she wore at the banquet last night, luckily there was a dress neatly folded on the table which the servant might have left for her.
She snaps her finger and in a second, the clothes she wore swap on the dress she saw on the table.
“Yes?” she answered and stands from the bed.
“May we come in?” she said behind the door.
“Ah, yes, wait for a second,” Celine uttered as she hurriedly walk towards the door while trying to fix her hair.
As she opened the door her emerald eyes gazes at Veronica and then at Monica.
“Good morning, Veronica… and to you Lady Monica,” she greeted.
“Good morning,” Veronica answered, “I didn’t see you at the dining room a while ago and I was worried so I came here, did you already have breakfast?” she asked.
“…Yes,” she lied.
“You’re very brave,” Monica commented and eyed her bruises and injuries who were wrapped up by bandages.
“…I believe I’m not, I just did what I could do,” Celine responded.
“How are you now Celine?” Monica asks giving her a small smile.
“…I’m fine now my lady, thank you for asking,” she replied and notices her smile grew wider.
“It’s good to hear that you’re fine now, do you want some tea with us?” Veronica suggested, “The weather is very great and the cool and clean wind will help you relax,” she added.
‘I hate tea,’ her mind automatically commented.
“That…would be nice,” Celine uttered.
“Then shall we go?” Veronica suggested.
“Yes we should,” Celine answered and bowed her head.
She exited the room together with them.
“You look gorgeous today Celine,” Veronica complimented as she eyed her with her signature sweet smile.
“Ah… Thank you Veronica but you are more gorgeous than me,” she commented.
“Don’t humble yourself too much Celine,” Veronica replied.
“I’m telling the truth though,” Celine responded and shrug her shoulder.
“Your dress looks good on you,” Monica commented.
“Oh,” she mumbled and eyed her clothes, “Thank you, my lady,” Celine continued.
She was wearing an off-shoulder ankle-length plain white dress with sleeves and ruffles at the end. Her waist-length wavy hair was messed and loose making the tips unruly. And her bruises and injuries being wrapped up by bandages were easy to see.
“Call me by my name, after all, her highness permitted you to call her by her name as well,” she said.
“Well then, if that’s what you want my lady—I mean Monica,” Celine answered.
Along the way they met Lucas, he immediately halted and bowed his head to them, particularly to two ladies beside Celine.
“Greetings to the royal princess, to lady Quinsley, and you Celine,” he announced and eyed Celine as he smiled at her.
‘He must have been suffering in a great uncertainty because of what he saw. Do I need to apologize to him for disobeying his words last night?’ she thought.
“Good morning Sir Mcrovier,” Veronica responded and smiled at her, “It’s good to see you today,” she added.
Celine saw Lucas glance at the royal princess as his eyes glimmered from an ablaze emotion that she can’t determine.
“It’s an honor as well to meet you today your highness,” Lucas answered.
“As expected, you’re still handsome,” Veronica complimented as Celine notices her cheeks became light pink.
‘What am I witnessing?’ Celine thought as her gaze transferred from Lucas then back to Veronica.
“You flatter me, your highness, you’re beautiful…every day,” Lucas replied.
Veronica chuckled while covering her mouth.
“Would you like to have some tea with us?” she uttered.
“Oh, I’m afraid I have to decline that offer, your highness, I’m preparing everything for the guests coming the day after tomorrow and I’m going to prepare his majesty’s office because he's going to work,” Lucas explained.
‘If only I knew that he would work today, I should have healed him thoroughly last night,’ her mind commented.
“But his majesty just recovered?” Monica interrupted.
“I tried to stop him from pushing himself too much but his majesty insisted my lady,” Lucas responded.
“My brother is a hardworking person but he’s not the type of person who carelessly overthrows himself in too much work. I’m sure he’ll do it moderately, don’t worry, I’ll advise him to rest after our tea ceremony, after all, I’m going to visit him,” Veronica uttered and smiled at Lucas.
“Thank you, your highness,” Lucas answered and bowed his head again.
“But, sadly, you couldn’t have tea with us, Sir,” Veronica added.
“Yes it is, don’t worry your highness, next time I’ll be with you the next time you invite me,” Lucas said with a bright smile.
“Then I’ll remember what you said just now sir Mcrovier,” Veronica replied.
“Thank you for understanding your highness, then I shall be on my now,” Lucas uttered and bowed his head again and walk past through them but managed to smile at Veronica while she smiled back at him.
‘Ah, is this what they call a teenage love?’ Celine asks herself.
“If I’m correct, Sir Lucas Mcrovier is the only son of marquis Roberto Mcrovier?” Monica asks.
“Yes you’re correct,” Veronica answered.
“I don’t understand why sir Mcrovier doesn’t settle down yet, with the looks and status he has, I’m sure any lady would gladly agree to any marriage proposal as long as it comes from him,” Monica uttered.
“…Yes, you’re right,” Veronica replied.
Celine notices her smile slowly fading and composed herself after.
“We should get going now,” Veronica announced as they started to walk again.
Mathew who was standing in front of his father’s office tried to compose himself and knock on the door.
“Come in,” he heard his father announce.
He steps inside and glances at his father busy scribbling on important papers.
“Father,” Mathew said breaking the silence.
His father look at him and smiled.
“Son!” his father cheerfully replied and stands from sitting on his chair.
“It’s good that you’re slowly recovering,” he uttered and hugs him gently.
“Yes it is father,” Mathew replied and smiled at him.
“I almost died worrying about your condition. Son, as much as possible if there’s an option, please avoid being hurt,” his father said breaking their hug and patting his shoulder.
“Yes I will father,” Mathew responded and glance at the pile of papers on his table, “I see that you’re very busy here, am I interrupting you from working?” he added.
“Yes I am quite busy but the papers are far from the due date so you’re not disturbing me at all,” his father answered.
“What were the documents for?” Mathew asks.
“Ah yes, it’s the documents needed for the temple to prepare for my mother’s death anniversary next week. The others are the list of guests and the rest were the papers for the priest’s approval,” his father answered.
His heart became heavy when he heard his answer.
‘Ah yes, I almost forgot my grandmother’s death anniversary will be next week,’ his mind whispered at her.
“Father, may I just ask something from you?”
“Yes, you may.”
“Is there any chance that you would forgive them?” Mathew asks.
A crease was formed between his father’s eyebrows.
“Who’s them?” his father questioned with confusion in his eyes.
“Sorcerers,” Mathew answered shortly never breaking his stare from his father.
He saw how his father’s expression change from confusion to a cold one and how his stares darkened with anger. He even notices his father’s jaw clenched.
“Why are you asking that to me son?”
“…I just want to know, father.”
“And you know the answer right?”
Mathew didn’t respond and just stared at him.
“No, I will never forgive them until the very end,” his father announced never breaking the stare.
Mathew closed his eyes for a few seconds and look back at him.
“I…understand you father,” Mathew uttered and forced himself to smile.
“I apologize if my expression is rude, it’s just that my mood instantly change when I heard that forbidden word my son,” his father replied, “Uhm, so! What’s your business here? Can I help you with something?” his father added.
Mathew forced himself to smile again and tried to be composed in front of him.
“I’ll tell you when I had the chance father, for now, focus yourself first on the necessary things you need to finish,” Mathew answered.
