CHAPTER TWO

"Okay, Grant, I'll be sure to inform him." Lucy smiled at her mate's friend, who had been so kind to always check on her while passing the alpha's information to Trent. Moments after Grant left, Trent walked in and sniffed the place. "What's that smell?" He scrunched his nose and Lucy quickly answered before he threw a fit. "Grant came by, he dropped something from the alpha, it's by the door." She called from her soon inside the house. Trent sneered but checked out the letter anyways. "Prepare me dinner, you b***h!" Lucy's mate, Trent shouted from the front door. Lucy, who was busy doing the laundry shivered. Since she got mated to Trent, it has been our hell, and no matter what she does, it was one beating after the other and this day was no different. Lucy took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down before turning to face Trent. She knew that any wrong move on her part would lead to a severe beating, and she couldn't afford that right now. She slowly walked towards Trent and looked up at him with pleading eyes. "Trent, I am doing the laundry right now. As soon as I am done, I will make you dinner," Lucy said in a low voice, trying to keep her fear under control. Trent stepped forward and grabbed Lucy by the hair, pulling her closer to him. "You don't tell me what to do, b***h. You do what I say when I say it!" he bellowed, his breath smelling of alcohol. Lucy winced in pain but tried to keep her composure. "I am sorry, Trent. I'll make your dinner right now," she said as she tried to free herself from his grip. Trent tightened his grip on Lucy's hair and pushed her against the wall. "I saw you in town with some guy, you think I won't know you're cheating on me?" He slapped her hard and she gasped. True enough, she was talking to a man in the store while she was out getting groceries. "Trent, I swear to you, I am not cheating on you," Lucy said in a low voice, pleading with him. "Oh yeah? So what exactly were you doing?" Trent asked with a grin. "I was buying stuff for dinner and he just asked me where the bathroom was!" she said, hoping that he wouldn't believe her. Trent frowned and punched Lucy in the abdomen. Lucy cried out in pain as Trent went on hitting her, alternating between her face and her abdomen. Lucy fell on the floor, gasping for air, but Trent was relentless. "I can't believe that you would dare to cheat on me! It makes me wonder why I even took you in the first place!" Trent barked. Lucy regretted taking him as her mate, before she could say anything, his phone rang, "What?!" He barked at whoever was on the other side of the phone. "Yes, I'll be right there." He answered, nodding before releasing Lucy from his death grip. She gasped, feeling relief course through her. "You better have dinner ready when I'm back." He kicked her one last time before exiting the house. Lucy cried until there were no more years to cry. Moments after Trent left, a knock sounded at the door. By the scent, Lucy knew it was Grant. He is always worried about her, so she mustered a bright smile as she answered the door. "Grant! Did you forget something?" She asked in a chirping tone. "Lucy…." Grant trailed off, taking a closer look at her face. He could smell the wrath in the house, the pain that was also radiating off of Lucy was undeniable, but he knew she never want to talk about it, so he played it off as nice. "No, I was thinking I could help you within the house and keep you company until Trent comes back," Grant answered, going inside the house without waiting for permission. He looked around, Lucy bit her lips. She knew she was safe, but for how long? Trent never seem to lose his temper in front of any of his friends or pack members, something about keeping up with the reputation, not that he had a good one anyway. "Thank you, Grant, I could use help with Trent's laundry." She told him, leading him to the laundry room. "Okay…" Grant raised a brow at how many dirty clothes were there and eighty percent of it seemed like Trent's. "Yeah, I've not been able to do laundry for the past few days." She tried to play it off, but Grant saw right through. He still didn't say anything though. As both friends worked on Lucy's chores, Grant wanted to take her mind off of the hurt, he proposed a game and they played until they tired. "You know, there's a nice club down the road, you'll have fun, I could even follow you." One might think Grant was inviting Lucy for a night out. "I'm a mated woman, Grant, you know that would be inappropriate." She scoffed, going back to her chores. "Okay, if you ever change your mind, you know where to find me." He left the options to her before leaving her to it. With a deep sigh, Lucy reminisce on her day and the sadness began to pour in again. "He accused me of cheating, maybe I should cheat indeed, after all, he's not my real mate," Lucy said in a voice void of emotion as she stood up. She donned herself in a good outfit, did makeup to cover up her bruises then ventured into the night, ready to get her game on. She sat in a corner, enjoying the music in the club when a stranger walked up to her. "Need a company?" The voice asked, deep and masculine. "Depends on who is asking." She replied in a sultry voice. "Wanna get out of here?" She needn't think twice. Like that, she spent her night with a stranger. Little did she know.
