The following day I received a call from James, I hesitated answering because it was going to be a hard conversation. Just as I was swiping to accept the call it stopped ringing. That’s a relief, I know I will have to deal with him but it would be easier after I move. I know he is going to try to talk me out of it. I spend the next few days spending as much time as I can with my family. They reassure me that they will visit, and I can come home for holidays. That made me feel a bit better about moving so far away.
James showed up at my house three days before I was due to move. He asked me out to dinner and we went to a high end steak house. We were having an enjoyable dinner and just being together. Then James suddenly got up and went down on one knee to propose. The proposal went something like this “Lizzie I can’t live without you, so I want you to marry me and work with me and my cause”. I was in total shock, he not only is asking me not to take this position but to turn my back on my career.
Get up I said you don’t actually love me and want to marry me, you just don’t want me to leave. He admitted he definitely doesn’t want me to leave, but he said that he really wants me to join him and his cause. I look at him and ask, ok so just what is this cause you want me to dump my career for?
He hesitated and said I will tell you but not here. We paid and left. After we got into his car he turned to me and said do you believe in supernatural beings? Ummmm, no I don’t, do you? Yes I do, and have seen many and killed several. Ok so this cause you want me to ditch my career for is what hunting down mythical creatures? Are you out of your mind, I am moving, I am taking the new job, and most importantly I am not going to marry you… now or ever. Take me home, Now!
He started the car and we drove home in silence. When we got to my house he turned to me and made me promise not to tell anyone he is a hunter. Sure no problem, like who would believe me anyway. Little did I know he wasn’t really giving up on keeping me from moving. We said goodbye and he left, I went inside and told my mom and dad about my crazy evening, and the ridiculous proposal. James spent the next few days texting me about how if I leave, I will be sorry. I decided to just ignore him.
Lizzie packed the last of her things to take with her to her new apartment. All three of her friends had arrived to see her off, and help her load the car for her trip.
Saying goodbye to her friends was hard, but her parents were even harder to leave behind. After a ton of hugs and tears she was finally ready to go. Just as she had hopped into her new car the voice in her head began again. She shook her head and tried to ignore it as she drove off. Realizing she had not set her gps she pulled over a couple blocks away from home and the voice started again “we need to get going or we will be in danger “. Shaking her head again as she pulled away, she noticed the same truck pulling into her neighborhood. She called her mom to warn her about the truck coming in the neighborhood, but no one answered. Just as she was about to turn around her mom called her back and said everything was fine, and she would tell my dad about my seeing that suv again.
Having talked to her mom made her feel better about continuing with her trip. It was funny how every place she saw brought back memories as she drove out of town. Again doubt and fear set in about being all on her own. Just as she had passed the park on the outskirts of town she saw James’s car pulled over with his four way lights on. She started to pull over to see what the issue was and that voice started screaming in her head it’s a trap!!! Keep going don’t stop!!! I went a little bit further and was going to go back when I saw the black suv stop and they were talking to James. Not a threatening posture but like they knew each other. Maybe it’s just another black SUV, of course there are hundreds of them around here. The voice said don’t trust him. I am really getting tired of this happening when I am stressed out…. That’s it, it’s just my subconscious mind keeping me safe. That must be what it is, and I have a long trip so I need to keep my mind on driving.
About two hours into my trip I stopped for gas, snacks, and a quick trip to the bathroom. A bottle of water, a can of chips, and some trail mix purchased, and gas paid for I headed to the bathroom and just as I was headed out to my car the black SUV pulled in. I paused and looked to see if they saw me, and to see if James was with them. He was and when they went inside the store I ran to my car and took off fast, but quietly so as not to draw their attention.
A few minutes later they caught up with me and followed me at a distance. The voice in my head started again, the restaurant is a safe place… what restaurant, I swear I am going crazy. Just then they started closing the distance and a restaurant came into view. I’m sure it’s crazy but I trust the voice in my head. I pulled right up to the door in the first parking spot and jumped out and ran inside.
As I rushed inside everyone looked up, I noticed everyone looked like they walked right off the front page of models are us. The men are like Greek Gods, and the women were flawless. Which honestly seems a bit odd in the middle of nowhere. Once the shock wore off, I asked if I could use the phone to call the police. I would have used my cell phone, but I don’t have any coverage so far out. The lady behind the counter said no need for that honey the sheriff is right here. A table full of GQ worthy men stood up, the one closest to me said what seems to be the problem pup. I was a bit taken aback by the reference, but I knew that I needed help and now. It’s a long story, but these men in a black suv have tried to abduct me twice now in two weeks time. I am all by myself heading to my new apartment to start my new job at Vulpine Design.
The man said any friend of Jason Knight is a friend of ours, we have your back. What is your name pup, m…my, My name is Lizzie I managed, they were all so tall and muscular. I felt like I was surrounded, but it felt good not bad. Let’s sit and talk so you can share your story, it might be helpful to know who or what we are dealing with.
