Darrien rubbed his hand over his face. The exhaustion of the past week had finally caught up to him. His town had always been a quiet town. Or it was at least as long as he had been alive. Now the gruesome things happening here were driving him up the wall. Every way be turned there was something evil. Being the sherriff was an important job, that just got a lot harder. A couple drug dealers were busted, and the grocery store down the street had been payed with counterfeit money. Some new families had moved in a couple weeks ago, and while they were strange, they weren't suspicious.
"Boss, there was a homicide near the high school. A young girl just called it in." Tessa informed him. He sighed. "Another murder? God save our souls."
The body of the victim was indistinguishable. It had been burned with fire, until only bones were left. Around him were black candles, flickering in the breeze. Darrien stared into the shadows of the trees nearby. He could feel it. A presence in the shadows, watching them. He began to walk toward it when his second in command started talking.
"So Darrien, what do you think happened here? I mean other than a murder?"
Darrien tore his eyes from the trees. "I'm not sure, Chase. I need more time and a closer look."
Meanwhile....
The girls gathered at their special spot in the woods. School had just let out and they were all feeling weird. Their skin was hot, as if being licked by flames. Someone burned, and they knew it in their bones, bodies, and souls. Someone would require justice. And someone else would be welcomed into their own personal hell....
The girls would make sure of it.
