The House It was early spring, and I was on my way to my house in Muriaglio, Italy. I was excited; the remodel was finally finished. I had no idea it would take over four years. I didn’t realize the amount of work it would take. The house was built around 1535, and everything practically had to be hand-fit together in the process. I left the bottom two floors much the same. I wanted the rock walls to show through the plaster in places. The third floor was the problem. That floor, we raised the roof eighteen inches and added rooms. Getting everything to fit and look like it belonged was the work of genuine artisans. Now it was finished and mostly furnished.
