Rhea's POV:
The next day, I woke up very early to go to the cemetery to visit my mother. Today marks 11 years since her death. She died during an attack against the Rogue king. I can still remember the look on my mother's face as her life was slowly draining out of her. Her bright blue eyes and pale skin, and her long wavy black hair drenched in her own blood.
"Learn how to fight and defend your people and never give up my Rhea, you are more special than you know. I love you Rhea." These were my mother's last words before she took her last breath, the very reason I wanted to be a warrior from a very young age. Little did I know that I would be tricked to be an assassin by my very own father.
I slowly walk to the cemetery while lost in my own thoughts and when I arrive I kneel down next to my mother's tombstone and just stare at it." I miss you." I say while looking at her picture on her grave. I didn't even notice I was crying until I felf tear drops on my lap.
I look just like her, same black hair, heart shaped face and the same long straight nose. The only difference is that instead of her blue eyes and pale skin, I have grey eyes and tan skin, just like my father's. I stay in the same position for some time until I decide to go back for some training.
when I arrive at the palace I am summoned by my father and the council. I already know that it is about a mission and I dread who the next victim is. I make my way to the court room and I find that everyone is already there.
I make my way to one of the empty seats and I look back to my father as I wait for him to speak. He stands up and walks across the room to the open window with his back facing us, and the words he says next leave me frozen on the chair," your next mission is the Rogue king."
King Esmond's POV :
"Your next mission is the Rogue king." When silence is the only thing that meets my ears I turn to gauge my daughter's reaction only to find her with the same stoic expression, but I do realize the shock evident in her eyes at the words I've just uttered, not what she was expecting I guess- I think to myself.
Rhea has always been my plan for revenge from the very start. She has always been the key for me to get what I wanted, and that is to avenge my wife by killing the Rogue king and his pack. She is more powerful than any other royal that has ever lived.
Aside from her incredible fighting skills and immense strength, she holds the power of all the elementals which includes earth, water, air, and fire. She can manipulate any of these elements and she also holds the power of truth. The power of truth makes you know when someone is telling the truth or when their lying.
Although Rhea knows of her strength and excellent fighting skills, she isn't aware of the power of the elementals and the power of truth. We got to know this through a wizard at the time Rhea was born and ever since then our primary goal was to keep her safe from all harm that would threaten to come our way.
That is until we realized that we had a traitor amongst our midst who was plotting with the Rogue king on attacking the kingdom, who also happens to be my second in command, Duncan. By the time we were aware of the attack it was already too late. The Rogue king had already infiltrated our borders and war had broken out. A war that took thousands of warriors and my Queen.
By the time we found her she was lying in a pool of her own blood with my 10-year-old daughter crying bitterly next to her. It is a sight that left me shattered and broken as a king, and a father. But I had to stay strong for my kingdom, being weak was never an option and I had to think like a king and not as a father, for the good of my kingdom as well as Rhea.
Which is why I started Rhea's training while she was still 12. She is the reason the Rogue king had attacked in the first place. He knows the power she holds and he wants her dead so that he can have a kingdom to rule over. it's no secret that a warrior king without a queen grows weaker over the years and is vulnerable against many attacks. And the attacks have been constantly coming, but we come out victorious every time because of Rhea.
And now I want her to finish this once and for all. I want her to kill that bastard who took away everything from me,from all of us. I know it's cowardly for a king to send someone to fight his battles and not even to mention his very own daughter, but I know my chances of winning against the Rogue king are way lesser now that I am much weaker than 11 years ago. Rhea is the only one who I can trust to get the job done and I will do absolutely anything to get her to kill that Rogue king.
I know that her birthday is in a week's time and I am planning to give her the freedom she seeks after she completes this mission. I know I've been a shitty father ever since her mother died and making her sign that contract was the last straw for even trying to mend things between us.
which is why I want her to celebrate her birthday being free. after this mission she can go do whatever she wants and do as she pleases. It's the least I could do after dragging her through he'll for most of her teenage years.
"our spies have reported that the Rogue king is making camp by the outlands near the dry lake. He has around 250 men with him, you are to kill every one of them and bring me the head of their king. If you successfully do as you're told, you will no longer be bound by the contract and you can go do whatever you please." At my last statement she perks up and turns to look at me. Her face remains neutral as always, only her eyes giving her away.
"What I want is to live as a commoner, no longer tied to the royal family. No longer know as the heir to your throne, can you promise me that?", She says after some time as she looks at me straight in the eye.
"I promise." I say with much more difficulty than I'd like to admit. She is my only daughter after all, but I did say I will grant her whatever she desires.
"Then consider it done. How much time do I have to get it done?", She asks. "Three days, you leave tomorrow at dawn. You can select two warriors to accompany you but not more than that." I say as I pick up my glass of whiskey. "Don't worry dear old father, I'm sure you know I will do just fine on my own. I am your monster after all", she says with a poker face. With those words she stands up and takes her leave.
