Unveiling Luna. The air was filled the pungent smell of antiseptic and heart monitors beeping with the ventilators creating a backdrop for the sound. It felt like I had died but I could barely remember what happened, I tried getting up but I was stopped by the sharp pain I felt in my head. A petite lady wearing a white uniform walked towards me holding a bulky file in her left hand ‘’ you should get some rest darling, you lost a lot of blood’’she said. I couldn’t help but ask what had happened and then it downed on me I was in a hospital and most likely involved in an accident. My name is De Luna St. John and this is my story. Previous night: I had gotten into a fight with Finn, my boyfriend over some petty text from an ex. We met in history class in my first senior year and we fell for each other in an unexpected way. Finn Colleen was an enigmatic teenager, a bit carefree like I was. He had lost his mother to cancer years ago after his dad, Darrell ,moved out leaving just him to fend for himself and take care of his mother’s business. It was mystic heights, a place said to have a lot of secrets. But what secrets were hidden? There were series of animal attacks each year in Mystic heights, we all thought there cover ups but cover ups from what exactly? The moon was at its apex that night, I remember it was a full moon. We were both at a party filled with drunk high school teenagers when I got a message from an unknown person. It was Finn’s obsessed ex who couldn’t let go. She sent a naughty picture of Finn which he apparently sent to her. It made me wonder and think about who I was dating. We tried talking about it but he was all defensive about it. I stormed out of the room to make a phone call because I felt so dizzy. I tried to call my parents Phil and Matilda to come drive me home because I couldn’t drive in the condition I was but surprisingly I had no signal. I took it upon myself to drive myself home. I could hear Finn calling out my name as he ran towards me while I opened my car and drove off. The pain in my head kept growing, it felt like every move I made intensified the pain, it felt like my eyes were being plucked out. My visions became blurry and I lost control of the steering and I hit someone before going off the rail and going off the bridge. I knew it was a girl but I couldn’t see who it was. I know the intensity of the crash because it sent her body flying in the air and me off the bridge. I tried crawling out of the car, it was crumbled and anyone would barely get out alive. I crawled out before falling unconscious. I could hear the sound of the ambulance sirens approaching me, that’s all I remember. Present Day. I woke up to so much pain in every part of my body, It felt like a rock fell on me. I reached out to the nurse standing beside me asking her about my parents and if anyone has been able to get across to them. “My—my parents, has anyone called them?” “you should get some rest darling, you lost a lot of blood” I looked at her with a frown on my bruised face. “your parents are here, but you need to get some rest” She finally said, which gave me a sense of relief. She pulled out a syringe injecting a substance into my drip, to make me sleep. I fell asleep but in a few minutes I was awake and it was unusual. I felt sharp pains in my teeth. Like my jaws were expanding. There was a mirror hung across my room, I ran towards it just to see my incisors growing out and my eyes in bright amber color. “Whattt—the hell is wrong with meee” Sniffing and trying to hold back my tears. I made my way to the hallway of the hospital, it felt like the sounds of the heart monitors were intensified, it was louder, I could hear voices and what they were talking about, the antiseptic smell was more concentrated. I had no idea what was going on. I stumbled into a room where I found some clothes and changed into something more comfortable. I also noticed the pain in my body had subsided, more like it never happened but there were still bruises on my body as evidence that I was badly injured. There was a mobile phone laying helplessly in one of the wards, I didn’t hesitate to take it to make a call. No idea of whom to call, I called Althea. She was my bestfriend but we had a fight after she told me about Finn secretly talking to his ex in cozy positions. I trusted Finn, so I felt she was only trying to tear us apart. But she was right. She picked up after it rang a few times. “Who’s this? Hellooo” “It’s Luna, Althea, could you come pick me up at the hospital, pleas—see” I tried holding back my tears but the urge to cry was stronger. It felt like everything was intensified and I had no idea what was happening. Few minutes later, she made her way to the hallway I was and we narrowly escaped my parents who were sitting at the front desk, waiting patiently for the doctors to give them a report. We drove off to her family’s old mansion in the outskirts of mystic heights. I hadn’t been here in a while but we used to sneak in at night after getting back from parties, so we knew the hidden paths to follow. “What’s wrong Luna? What’s going on?” “How are you also up, I mean I heard about the crash and everyone thought you were going to die” “Althea, I have no idea what’s going on….. but something is wrong with me, my jaw hurts and my eyes, I saw them. They were bright amber” She stared at me like I was crazy, I opted to crash at her place while we figure out what’s wrong with me.
