Chapter 16

POV: Adrienne The sun was setting. Did Lena forget about our date? I couldn’t find her anywhere I think she would be within this castle. Could she possibly still be with my father? HELL NO! That has been hours ago. What on earth could they be talking about? But really, where is She? I obviously can’t seem to forget about her even for a minute. I was thinking about this morning while I made way to father’s wing of the castle. Remembering Lena’s story made the guilt of misjudging her engulf me. How wrong I was about her. Who would have thought such beautiful thing have gone through the worst physically and emotionally? While my questions where were yet to be answered, they were rudely interrupted by the sight of Lena and my Dad, laughing loudly with what seems to have graduated from juice to wine situations. This is most random, even for my father. “Ouch! Nobody invited me to the party?” I said in sarcasm, I realized I felt the hurt of being left out, surprisingly. I was standing as a chair was hurried brought to me. “This woman here is intriguing to say the least. Very intelligent, we could converse for days,” father said, about Lena. About the lady he sat with for a few hours, he’s already complimenting. Does she go about charming the men of this house or something? “Hello”, Lena simply said. She just looked up my face and _’hello’d’ me like she missed out on our date? Did she forget? “Look who didn’t show up for our date” “I’m sorry but I’m on one already” she teased, with a giggle. My father seems to enjoy the show. Now I’m even more curious to what they were discussing. “Well, it’s evening already. We’ll try again tomorrow. It’s not like you have anywhere else to go at the moment” I teased back. “So, am I welcomed to this conversation?” I looked at my father knowing the answer was written all over his face regardless of whatever he may say. And of course, it was a blatant NO. “My dear Lena, it was a good conversation. Remember the last thing I told you. Let me leave you twin friends alone. It’s getting too cold for me anyways”, father signaled to be wheeled back to his room. I turned giving Lena a look. That look. Then, “Can you explain to me what is going on here?” Slipped out my mouth. “I know my father. I know how protective he can be. I wouldn’t be surprised if he must have threatened you over the course of your conversation with him. I can handle it. I just want you to assure me that you’re ok, Lena”. I don’t know what I was expecting but it isn’t this calm response. As a matter of fact, She even looks like she enjoyed the conversation more than fear it. “Woah! Adrienne, whatever it is your father must have done for you to loose this much trust in him” For a moment, I almost fell for that sarcasm but then again, was she really being sarcastic? “Ummm” I stammered with an obvious shrug. “I assure you, I had a swell time with your Father. He’s an interesting man “ she assured. Of course, he is. I don’t know what it is but I’m almost certain she looks a bit distraught. But now I cant beat out a confession out of her, can I? “So when next are we going on our adventures? Or is someone cockblocking me again?” I sulked. “Tomorrow is fine, I really have no plans as you can see” “After breakfast then” in my head, I was planning the date. “Is that a request or an order?” She asked me. “A request, my dear one” I bowed my head looking up at her, indulging her tease or whatever she was doing. The. She giggled. “Oh please” she said rolling her eyes, “I can’t wait. I am really excited about it. I’ve been bored” she said. Lucky for me, I thought. We barely could have a chat when we were called for dinner. The evening went on with giggles and laughter as one by one we called it a night. ******* POV: Lena After an eventful evening, I was glad it was over. I held a perfect unassuming face for someone who was just told her life history by the only person who possibly know more about her than herself. I laid on that bed, questioning myself who am I. My father is not even here to answer the numerous questions I have about myself. I couldn’t sleep. I woke up heading for any of the balcony so I can enjoy the moonlight. Lost I. Thoughts, I tiptoed my way around and walked this huge castle till I landed in the Alpha’s wing. I passed from one corridor to another, enjoying the serenity of the night under the fully lit moon. Then I breezed past this door and it was slightly open. Dimly lit. But open. And there are books. It must be the library. I would have easily kept strolling away my thought through the corridors of this castle but no, I went on to open that door. I’m wide awake so why not? Right? Or so I thought. The library was everything of every ancestral era and every clan. There are sensitive information here that I shouldn’t be close to but Curiousity got the best of me and I decided to go through the books. Then this book on the tilted oak shelf caught my eye. The frame was wooden so thick. I reached for it, trying to see what book it was, and it was surprisingly lighter than it looked. On opening it, it was a littler scroll. This was the moment I should have left but I did not, I went in to loosen the scroll and read what was on it. “… remember, you took an oath until your last breath” was the last thing I read as a heard footsteps walking obviously towards the door. It was so late in The quiet night that a pin drop could be heard. Immediately, it dawned on me how wrong of me, a stranger to be here. I tried to quietly return the scroll and leave the rooms. “Were you snooping around ?” A voice , a familiar voice, I turned my back to called out. “Snoop?” I scoffed before turning to see him. “Were you sleep walking?” “Adrienne, I couldn’t sleep so I decided to quietly enjoyed the night. I found this library that I am afraid I will have to come back to and I can’t even say how long I was there for. I swear there was no snooping” I innocently said. “You couldn’t sleep? Me neither!” He replied me excitedly. Not suspecting if I really was snooping. After the day I have had, who would blame me if I need to know better better snooping?
