Chapter 3

863 Words
Devian turned the necklace non-stop as he asked himself why she ran away. No matter how hard he tried, he still couldn't fathom why she said it was impossible. What was impossible? She being mated to him? He had gone for a quick run the night before to clear his head. He decided to take his beta and Omega along but before he knew it, his younger sister and two other werewolves had followed. Of course he ran faster than they did and in twinkle, they lost him. They were searching for him when they came across a human and his mate. Had it been he was a second late, they'd have devoured the human which would have definitely annoyed his mate. When he perceived and saw she was getting cornered from afar, he halted all of them through mind-link and raced to where they stood. He could hardly stop thinking about her when he got back. What she wore was so tempting he wanted to change and sweep her into his arm. It took all he had not to change and run his hands everywhere on her. He had the intention of shifting but when she stepped back and shook her head, his heart broke into million pieces. Did she not want him? He could remember vividly how tears clouded her eyes before she ran away without touching him. That moment, his body strangely craved her touch as he watched her stand under the silver moon. "You're going to wear that necklace off with your eyes". Theresa turned to tell him. "You've been staring at it all day and you won't let anyone touch it". "I don't want to get anyone's scent on it". He stood up and slipped it inside his pocket. "I have to find her again". "So what's your plan?" Trance, his beta who sat with three other werewolves including his sister asked. "I'll go back to where we met yesterday. I'm sure she'd have been there searching for it and would come back at night to see me". His eyes took in the activities of the new shifters on the field. "Unless the necklace isn't precious". He added. "So we're fifty percent sure she'll come back for it". Haden, his Omega stated. There was silence afterwards. They continued watching the kids as they trained on the field. That reminded him of his past when he used to get an extra training from his father after everyone had gone to play. He hardly had time for himself during his childhood. He received alot of training from his dad who was determined to make him strong and undefeatable...unlike him. He could say the pack became famous after his dad retired and he took over when he was twenty. He took down many packs that refused to obey the law of the council and because of that, he gained pretty little enemies but none of them have had the guts of stepping into his territory to confront him. His name became known especially when the council of elders officially ranked him. Werewolves who had no home owing to destruction would run to him and he'd accept them into his pack but when it came to being ruthless and unforgiving, he'd top the list. He had no control over himself and his wolf and he had no interest in learning how as well. "It's so great she can mix with human". Theresa turned her head to say. "It's easy for her 'cause she's a non shifter. I don't think she lives in a pack." Trance replied. He knew she didn't belong to a pack. The way the human trusted and clung unto her made him realise they'd been together for long. And she was a non shifter. Some non shifters were prone to discrimination because they didn't have the wolf gene and not fully considered a werewolf. They didn't smell like werewolves and they didn't smell like humans either. They were more like middlemen. They had their scent. But honestly, he didn't mind. She was his mate either way. "We leave by eight". Devian announced. "Can I come?" Therasa shot up her hand. "No". He declined. "And you mustn't sneak behind me. I let it slide yesterday but I won't let it today. If you want to go for a run, do it in the midday. I can't let what happened the last time repeated itself". He warned his adamant sister. He was twenty percent sure she'd still follow him. She loved going for a run during the night but he had ban her from that ever since she fell off a cliff while running from some rouges. She had injured herself badly and it took them till the next day to find her. "It won't, I promise. Besides, you guys are with me". She stood up and walked to him. "I'll be careful". Devian sighed and started walking off. "Is that a yes?" She screamed behind him but he gave her no answer which he knew she'd would definitely take for a yes. The only thing on his mind was to find his mate..and until then, he planned to remain silent.
